Shaw Wins Sixth Straight CIAA Women's Tennis Title

Lady Bears Continue To Dominate CIAA

Ettrick, VA – For the sixth straight year, the Shaw University Lady Bears and the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls battled for the CIAA Women's Tennis title Saturday afternoon. The same result followed as Shaw defeated JCSU 4-0 to capture the 2024 CIAA title. With the win, Shaw has now captured the last six CIAA women's tennis titles bringing their total to 13 CIAA championships. 

The contest started with Shaw earning a point in doubles action winning at the first and third spots.  The Lady Bears clinched the title with a single win in singles action. CIAA Player of the Year Anja Antonijevic who was ahead in her third slot by the score of 6-0, 5-0 also came away with tournament MVP honors. 


The match was a thrilling one with a lot of high-level competition as both teams met for the conference title. "We were preparing as a team and we worked hard to support each other every step of the way." CIAA Tennis Championship's Most Valuable Player and CIAA Player of the Year, Anja Antonijevic stated. 


Coach Sunday Enitan continues to put his name into the list of CIAA greats as the 2024 title was his 23 CIAA championship overall. 


The championship is the sixth in a row for the Lady Bears. With the win, the Shaw Lady Bears will now take an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament.
