"It was scary when they were bringing children with shrapnel wounds to their heads. We could not do anything"

Ihor Zolotous, a neurosurgeon at the Mariupol Regional Intensive Care Hospital, had been saving urban residents until March 23. The first wounded were civilians. Most of the injuries were gunshot, shrapnel, and mine-blast wounds.

There has been no electricity since the beginning of March, and the generator was working only for the surgery block.

"Russian military entered on March 12. They put a gun barrel to my belly. They asked if there were Ukrainian military there. But "Azov" evacuated their wounded the day before.

After the air strike on the maternity hospital on March 9, pregnant women were brought to us. We supported the delivery of 6 babies.

I remember when a russian tank hit between the 3rd and 4th floors, and the floor structures collapsed. Two patients were trapped under the slabs. One very severely injured person died", – told doctor Ihor Zolotous.
