We work with and on behalf of intersex, trans and gender diverse people, their friends, families and allies.

A Gender Agenda aims to support the goals and needs of the intersex, transgender and gender diverse communities of Canberra and the surrounding region.

AGA is a unique community organisation actively engaged in increasing public awareness and understanding of sex and gender diversity issues. In addition to training and education, we provide advocacy and support services, information and resources and are actively engaged in human rights and law reform. AGA is a vibrant community of sex and gender diverse individuals, their families, friends and allies. We hold regular community gatherings and some events that are open to the broader public. 

What we believe

AGA operates from a human rights based framework. We believe that there is no 'right' way to be male or female, masculine or feminine and that all people are entitled to autonomy over their bodies, gender identity and gender expression. We operate from a position of respecting and celebrating the uniqueness and diversity of human experiences. Anyone who is gender non-conforming, or who questions the binary categories of sex and/or gender is part of our community - no sub group of people has more or less right to claim space in our community.

How we work

AGA adopts a collaborative approach to the work we do. We work on a strengths based model and seek to find and build on points of commonality with other sectors and service providers. We value the importance of articulating our issues in ways that allow people to understand that issues of gender identity and sex are fundamental issues that affect all of us.
