If you're looking for junk on your Mac, the best is to start with your Documents. Strangely enough, the Finder doesn't show the size of your folders there. But you can choose a special view and sort your Docs by size.
Extra tip:
Sort your Downloads by size. Hit Command + Backspace to delete items faster.
Search for these in your Downloads

Although iTunes is no longer around, some of its synced media may still be on your Mac. People rarely check their Home folder, but this is where gigabytes of buried treasures (or junk) may be hiding.
Extra tip:
The iMovie library is the next candidate for deletion. It actually contains duplicates of your original videos. Home folder > Movies > iMovie library
Check for hidden apps and agents

Not all apps show in the Applications folder. Some may not even have icons. There are many service apps called launch agents that stay in the shade, sometimes overtaking the RAM.
