About the author

Elizabeth Day is the author of four novels and a Sunday Times bestselling memoir, How to Fail. Her acclaimed debut Scissors, Paper, Stone won a Betty Trask Award and Home Fires was an Observer Book of the Year. Her third novel, Paradise City, was named one of the best novels of 2015 in the Evening Standard, and The Party was an Amazon bestseller and a Richard & Judy Bookclub pick. 

Elizabeth is also an award-winning journalist and has written extensively for The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Observer, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle. She is currently a columnist for The Mail on Sunday's You magazine, a presenter on BBC Radio 4 Open Book and host of the iTunes chart-topping podcast, How To Fail With Elizabeth Day.

Emma Vardy is the Ireland Correspondent for BBC News. She regularly appears on the BBC’s flagship television and radio news programmes reporting on stories across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

An award-winning journalist, Emma is particularly recognised for “brave, fearless reporting” in her coverage of paramilitary violence and has become a well-known face leading viewers through the twists and turns of Brexit.

Originally from England, Emma is perhaps a little unusual in that she did not have a television at home growing up and says instead, she “buried herself in books”.
