For the first time, U.S. News and World Report announced its best Elementary and Middle School rankings. The magazine and website has long listed its top high schools and colleges but added the two younger-level schools this year.

Bellbrook is no stranger to the high school list, having made the list once again this past year as the 53rd-best high school in the state.

Bellbrook Middle School was on similar footing, having been named the 54th-best middle school in the state. That’s the fourth major award for BMS this year, including being named a Middle School to Watch, recertifying its Purple Star designation and winning its 28th consecutive Governor’s Award for STEAM studies.

“Day in and day out, our staff continues to always do what’s best for students,” middle school principal Jenna Hill said. “I believe we have some of the best educators in the state who do everything they can to prepare our students for the next steps in education and life. This is a great honor to highlight all of the hard work and dedication we see from staff, students, and families in our community!”

Not to be outdone, Bell Creek Intermediate also earned a Best Elementary Schools badge from U.S. News and World Report. According to the report, Bell Creek outperforms the state averages in both math and reading by a wide margin.

“Whenever there’s marked room for improvement, it can be daunting,” BCI Principal Donnie Phelps said. “But I am so impressed with the staff that continues to do all the things that matter. The amount of teamwork and how far we’ve come – we are following through on the strategic plans we’ve been making to move all our students forward.”

Stephen Bell Elementary is unranked, but testing data shows that the school is a top performer in both math and reading.
