Successful Applicants - Copper Coast Council Community Grants 2023/2024 Round Two

During February's Council Meeting, 16 of 19 Community Grant applications submitted to Council were recommended for funding, totaling just over $53,000.

The highest amount awarded was $10,000 for the Paskeville Progress Association to purchase and install new cooking appliances and associated installations in the Paskeville Community Centre. The group has been lobbying multiple grant funders for the entirety of the new kitchen project to deliver a $60,000-plus project in total.

The Yorke Peninsula Dirt Kart Club in Wallaroo was recommended for a grant of $4,796 to upgrade perimeter fencing around their track and to remove their old sign and replace it with a new one.

Moonta Senior Citizens, Inc. were also recommended grant funding to the tune of $3,300 to install a new automatic opening door at their branch, while the Moonta Mines Bowling Club in Kadina will be able to enjoy a new ride-on mower very soon after being recommended grant funding of $4,190 to replace their 40-year-old mower.

The Council’s Economic Development & Community Engagement Coordinator, Holly Cowan, said the quality of this round’s grant applications was the best she has seen. She also highlighted the economic benefit of community grants.

“Research demonstrates that volunteering yields a 450 per cent return for every dollar invested, so the total grant funding invested into the local community is expected to result in significant benefit beyond the anticipated financial project cost,” she said.

“Community grants are one way that Council can assist communities to achieve their vision, and it is a thrill to advise applicants when successful. Projects like the Pasky kitchen upgrade have been years in the making, with significant volunteer investment including time and resources for painting and readying the kitchen, to project management and physically picking up the equipment.

“Council is pleased to support organisations like this to achieve their vision, and it is a thrill to advise applicants of their success.”
