GEO Action Commitments
After Provost Cangellaris and Chancellor Jones refused to meet with GEO to collaborate on creating a plan of safety and protection for grad workers, our students, our faculty colleagues, and staff, TAs and GAs will take action by staying online from Wed Feb 2nd–Fri Feb 4th instead of going back in person to pressure UIUC administration to meet our demands and make our working and learning conditions safer.

GEO is not demanding that all classes move online for the semester—instead we are asking that the UIUC administration respect the right of TAs and students to decide how we teach and learn best, whether that’s online, hybrid, or in person. It’s OUR LEARNING and OUR LABOR—it should be OUR CHOICE!

We are also asking for safe in-person working conditions, including 16 N95/KN95 masks for workers and students, COVID-19 exposure notifications, and regular testing. See our full demands here: https://tinyurl.com/UIUCSafetyPetition

We will be using the time online to share with our students why we're temporarily online for their safety and quality of education, to build solidarity over our shared working and learning conditions, and to ask them and their parents to contact the Provost and Chancellor.
