People love to eat outdoors, and the pandemic has increased demand for outdoor dining in Chicago!
Last summer policymakers proactively implemented policies that allowed restaurants to maximize their capacity to accommodate outdoor dining. It does not appear these policies have been reinstated, leaving restaurants and local communities uncertain about outdoor dining this year.
Please sign this petition and urge policymakers to do the following:
- Permit restaurants to expand outdoor dining to adjacent storefront sidewalks in appropriate situations.
- Permit restaurants to expand outdoor dining to parking lots and other neighboring private property when appropriate.
- Reduce the sidewalk café permit fee by 75%, as was done in 2022.
- Provide clarity on street and curb closure programs in local communities.
Chicago’s outdoor dining season is short, so time is of the essence.
