Ric Wilson is a talented young Chicago artist who emerged from Young Chicago Authors, a creative program that also served as a launching pad for rappers like Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa.
Delivering bars with soulful elegance and an overall energetic poise, Wilson first turned heads with his aptly titled 2016 EP, Soul Bounce—which was followed by Negrow Disco in 2017. Now, he's readying the release of his next EP, BANBA, which will drop on May 18 via Innovative Leisure.
The project's second single, "Sinner," finds Wilson collaborating with Kweku Collins, Nick Kosma, and Rane Raps. Produced by Hirsh (who was also responsible for the bouncy beat on BANBA's lead single "Split"), the song is held together by clever wordplay from Wilson and an addictive hook that arrives just in time for summer.
“No one’s perfect. We're all a shit show, trying to be better people everyday. This song is about trying to get there," Wilson says of his record that was produced by Hirsh, co-produced by Wilson, and features live horns from Sam Veren.
On linking up with Kweku Collins: "Me and Kweku have been friends for years and have always been talking about doing a song together, I finally reached out and sent a track that I thought made sense. That’s usually how stuff goes in Chicago.”
