Blues Brothers

A younger brother always looks up to his older brother.  In the early years, the older brother has the skills and strength to torment the younger brother.  Slowly, the younger green one grows, matures, and the playing field becomes more equal, blurring the once obvious gap between the brothers.

Smaller wants to be taller.  Bad wants to be rad.   Worst wants to be first.

As we stepped over the cherished chalk and onto the divine dirt, we were all brothers last night.

The Cougars opened the season against our softball siblings, Chicken Shack.  At the start of the game, Shack held all the records and had won all five games in this rivalry.

Make that six.  Last night the Cougars were singing the blues after an extra-inning loss to the seasoned Chicken Shack.  In the end, Chicken Shack battered us up.

The Cougars had the Shackers turning red out there after we dropped four runs on them in the bottom of the first inning.  The Shack came back with five in the third and the Cougars touched home in the bottom to tie it up.  Stabber, Fort and JD were in top fielding form and kept us in the game.  We ended the game in regulation all tied at nine.  In the extra frame, Shack dropped four runs on us in the top of the eighth to take a 13-9 lead.  The Cougars followed with a  rally in the bottom of the eighth led by a Stabber two-run homer for a 13-11 score.  Sadly, the Cougars reached three outs instead of three runs and lost the game.

As sporting brothers go, the Cougars are taking solace that we are the Eli to Shack's Peyton.
