Speakers: Jennifer Pierce, Esq. Pro Bono Director and Michelle R. Terry, Esq., Delaware County Managing Attorney for the Chester City Office, Legal at Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (LASP)
Attorneys Pierce and Terry will educate attendees about programs LASP offers for helping seniors and will come away with a greater understanding of the services provided by LASP, what is a good referral to LASP, and how attorneys can support the mission of LASP through pro bono work.
Jennifer Pierce, Pro Bono Director, Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (LASP) began practicing at LASP in 2015 in its Bucks County division, focusing on dependency, custody and protection from abuse cases. In 2018, Ms. Pierce assumed the role of managing attorney of LASP’s Doylestown office and Pro Bono Coordinator for Bucks County, overseeing staff handling family law and elder law matters and coordinating the private bar’s involvement in LASP’s pro bono matters in Bucks County. In 2021, Ms. Pierce became the VOCA Supervising Attorney, managing all VOCA funded staff handling domestic violence-related matters across LASP’s four counties. Since December 2021, Ms. Pierce has served in her current role as LASP’s Pro Bono Director. Ms. Pierce obtained her Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law in 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University.
Michelle R. Terry is LASP's Delaware County Managing Attorney for the Chester City office. Ms. Terry 's career in legal aid began during law school at the University of Pittsburgh, as an intern at Neighborhood Legal Services. A Reginald Heber Smith Fellow, she worked under the fellowship for her first two years at the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association. She then continued on with DCLAA as supervisor of the Advice & Referral Unit for five years, and as staff attorney. In the 1990s, in addition to her work with DCLAA, she supervised students and was an adjunct professor at Villanova University law school. In 2001, DCLAA merged with legal aid organizations in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties to form LASP. At that time, Ms. Terry became Managing Attorney of LASP's Delaware County Division, while also handling more than 2,000 cases for LASP, from 2001 to the present. Over the decades, she has represented clients in cases related to education, disability, unemployment compensation, SSI, housing, custody, PFAs, consumer law, and more.
