This course will provide primary and secondary school teachers with ideas, free training material and resources to help them bring coding and computational thinking into the classroom with already made lessons plans. Besides, teachers will learn what is Code Week and how to participate in this initiative, that during 2019 engaged 4.2 million people in Europe and beyond. At the end of the MOOC, participants will have to organise an activity with their students or colleagues and register it in the Code Week map. After reporting the activity, participants will also get a certificate validated by the European Commission for their participation and engagement in the initiative.
To raise awareness about the importance of integrating coding and computational thinking into the classroom
To become familiar with innovative tools and approaches such as visual programming tools, unplugged activities, robotics, tinkering and making and coding for all subjects
To provide teachers with the basic knowledge of the Code.org CS fundamentals curriculum
To provide teachers with free training materials and resources available in 29 languages
To get familiar with the EU Code Week initiative and learn how to register an activity and report back
To discover what is the Code Week 4 all challenge
To become part of a community of enthusiastic teachers that can interact, exchange, share best practices and participate together in the EU Code Week initiative 2020.
Prerequisites
This course can be followed by primary and secondary school teachers, regardless the subject they teach and their knowledge of coding. The course is also open to anybody interested and willing to take the course: young adults, adults, seniors, parents, librarians, entrepreneurs and policymakers. No previous experience or knowledge on coding and computational thinking is needed to take this course.

Certification
In order to earn a course certificate, course participants need to design a lesson, register it as a EU Code Week activity, and review two EU Code Week activities registered by other participants. The final deadline to complete all activities is 30 October 2020, 23:59 CET. The participation in the quiz will count for 5% of the final grade and is not a requirement for receiving the course certificate. The EU Code Week activity registered, together with the peer reviews, will count for 95% of the final grade. The overall passing grade is 95%.
