Description :

Here is a unique toran idea from the traditional hinterland of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Taking inspiration from the art form of Leather Puppetry this is certainly different.

STEP 1 : Draw the design
  • We are going to make the toran for the festival of Dussehra inspired from the leather puppetry called Tholu Bommalata.
  • We are using the canvas sheet instead of the leather with beautiful design.
  • Take A3 white papers, draw three characters from Ramayana Ram, Hanuman and Ravan on it approximately 6” in size.
STEP 2 : Transfer the design
  • Take the canvas sheet, trace the same design on it with yellow carbon paper.
  • Refer to the image.
STEP 3 : Paint the figures
  • Cut along the outlines of the figures with a pair of the scissors.
  • Paint the figures with Acrylic Colours Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Crimson 04, Dark Green 06, Light Green 12, Orange 17, Yellow Ochre 26, White 27, Cerulean Blue 32, Neon Orange 017, Neon Pink 018
  • Let it dry completely.
  • Similarly draw and paint the floral design border of the toran also with Acrylic Colours.
  • Leave it to dry completely.
STEP 4 : Attachments
  • We have to make 2 figures of each.
  • Attach and stick each figure back to back using Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
  • Take the colourful wooden beads and yellow woolen tassels, attach each figure with beaded strand and tassel.
  • Attach the figures along with the beaded strand to the painted floral border using Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
  • Your toran for Dussehra will look like this.
