G: Grateful Givers

O: Open-minded

L: Loyal (to their purpose)

D: Disciplined

E: Equipped

N: Necessary

After reading Scholastic Leadership with Service, I challenge you to embrace your call to service, always choosing to lead with honor, confidence and respect.

Sister-to-Sister

Kalle Herring, President

The Sister to Sister (S2S) mentoring program is an academic enrichment opportunity for all female students that attend Tallahassee Community College (TCC).

The program allows for each S2S member to be paired with a faculty, staff, or community mentor. The purpose of the assigned mentor is to encourage and provide guidance throughout the member's collegiate journey at TCC. My time as a leader for the Sister to Sister program has resulted in me being more engaged on campus. In a year’s time, our program experienced an increase in students participating in the program’s planned events. Additionally, our membership has grown to 156 members this year, making it one of the largest student programs on campus.

We have maintained our commitment to civic engagement by offering a variety of options for community service, including our Adopt-A-Street initiative that showcases the S2S name! We also opened a professional clothing closet, where female students are welcomed, and receive donated fashionable clothing for interviews and other special events. On March 31, 2023, we held our first inperson conference, which was open to all young females across North Florida. I was excited to serve as the opening plenary speaker! Attendees enjoyed moderated breakout sessions, a fashion show, a panel discussion focusing on small business, and so much more. With this program, I have really stepped out of my comfort zone. I have learned to feel and be valued.

Kalle Herring will receive her Associate of Arts degree this May, and will attend Florida A&M University in Fall 2023.

THE GIRL FLO Amaya Waymon - Founder

Starting, The Girl Flo, my sophomore year of high school, and accomplishing my goal of having menstrual dispensers in K-12 restrooms is very dear to my heart. Service will help my peers to be more empathetic and eager to help others. Service will help my classmates look at life from a different perspective. The benefit that service has is impeccable; it comes down to learning more about the world, building social awareness, and having a humble spirit.

The thought behind this project began as a result of working with a food pantry in middle school. I advocated for providing menstrual products in schools.

Community supporters reached out to me, and decided to help provide schools with menstrual dispensers. I realized this wasn't just a need in my Title 1 school, but in every school. The Girl Flo has raised over $20,000 in just two years and I’m not stopping. I will be one of the change makers for ending period poverty in the U.S.

The Girl Flo (Continued)

My own peers had to miss class or buy lunch because they didn’t have these products and that’s not right. If other supplies are stocked and provided, why aren’t menstrual products? The Girl Flo has introduced me to so many people that have committed to continue to help me through this menstrual equity journey and even in life. The challenges that I experienced with The Girl Flo will prepare me for college chaos that shapes us into change makers.

At a young age, caring for others was instilled into my nature. From passing out toiletry bags to homeless people I saw on the street, to giving teddy bears to hospitalized children at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, I saw firsthand how one act of kindness could make the biggest difference in the lives of many. After thoroughly brainstorming ways I could enact positive change in my community, I told my mom that I wanted to create an organization entitled, Kaylin’s Caring Konnection, Inc. (KCK).

Its mission would be to show love, bring smiles, and touch as many hearts as possible by simply showing that I care. Since its creation, I have utilized my organization to give back to several people in my community including the homeless, youth caregivers, disadvantaged youth/families, and so many more.

Kaylin Jean-Louis is a dual-enrolled, graduating Senior from Florida High and a DJF Class of 2023 Scholarship Recipient.

I believe that God unlocks doors of possibility and that it is my responsibility to open them. When I walked into Kaylin’s Caring Konnection, I had no idea I was walking into a mansion of possibilities with infinite doors. Over the years, God has unlocked various opportunities for me to connect with community leaders, join communitybased youth groups, and create a platform where I use my voice for positive change.

Throughout my high school career, every door I have opened has allowed me to bring more people together to tackle social issues in my community. As I grow, I hope to continue being the difference that inspires others to do the same.
