My father is dead. Murdered in front of me. I’m all alone but finally free to do as I please.
But before I have a chance to taste my freedom, I find myself locked in a room with no memory about how I got there.
I’ve met Dusk and their twin Luan, but behind the door, I hear others. Just how many people are holding me captive? And why?
As I plan my escape, I start wondering if I truly want to run away and be on my own again. Especially when the touch of my captors makes me feel dangerous, exciting things I’ve never felt before…
Indulge your hidden side with Lainey's books: packed with action, danger, and sizzling romance.
Lainey Delaroque started writing at eleven and studied Journalism only to rediscover her love for fiction. She writes stories packed with action, danger, and sizzling romance. She loves dangerous, fantastical worlds and morally grey characters. Lainey’s books are a mashup of her lived experience as a kinky pansexual immigrant and her relentless imagination. They are a refuge for those looking to indulge their deepest, darkest parts. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, watching, or gaming, because there are too many great stories in the world and too little time.
Do you remember Lu-Na,who helped Damien,Sophie and her gang in the previous stories? Who kept to themselves, and were reluctant to meet anyone other than Damien? Somehow,Dawn Aster, who’s father ran Comet International, ends up with them…. What that means for Lu-Na,as well as Dawn, how it throws their lives into chaos? You can read it in Dark Pills, but i have to warn you….. There is a content warning before the story you’d better read first. Because it helps you understand what’s going on,and why. It gives a warning as to how deep this story goes, what emotions it touches. And this story goes deep, for Lu-Na ánd for Dawn, trust me….. But once you reach the end,i know you’ll be happy you met them.
After reading the ARC of this beauty,i can share with you that they left me behind with a smile on my face, and a warm feeling deep down in my heart. Lainey really brought the beauty that is Lu-Na out in all it’s glory. She gave them the center stage, and made them shine. And she gave them the perfect girl in Dawn, the only one that saw them for who they were. That’s all i will share this time. Because anything else i say, will spoil the experience for you.
I think this may have been my favorite Lainey Delaroque novel yet! Dark pills is full of twists and turns I just did not see coming. I was hooked right from the start and was rooting for Dawn to find her feet in the new world she finds herself in. I loved seeing past characters show up as well. This book can be read as a standalone, but I 100% recommend reading the whole series and getting to know the other characters as well!
Okay this by far is my favourite book in the series!!!
I've not read a book with such an indepth DID system in it and I felt it was represented so well! The dawn/dusk relationship was my favourite though ❤️
Lainey is a genius with her words and although there wasn't necessarily a huge plot it was written so well it felt like a 1000 page book in all the best ways!
Dark Pills was the Lainey Delaroque story I’ve been waiting for, ever since Lu-Na’s introduction into the Lavender world. They were a curious character, one you were never entirely sure what to make of, but as they reappeared through the Dark Things series I picked up on a few characteristics that would turn out to make a lot of sense once I started reading this book.
Let’s start at the beginning of the story. We have Dawn, the girl you may remember from the compound the gangs raided towards the end of Dark Ink. Having been freed from her unknowing captivity by her father, she finds herself held captive by a new entity, unsure of either why or how many people are holding her. Lu-Na finds themselves in possession of the girl, with no idea how she arrived in their apartment but discovering an intense desire to care for and protect her. How many of their secrets will she uncover and do they want to let her in and truly see them for who they are?
Compared to the more complex story threads in the earlier books of the series, Dark Pills goes with the much simpler premise of Dawn avoiding her uncle, who wants to see her returned to Comet International. The main driver of the book isn’t the obvious storyline but the character development, and there’s plenty of space for those characters to grow.
Dawn and Lu-Na have both led very sheltered lives although for entirely different reasons. As the story progresses the reader sees both characters come to terms with the purpose of their isolation, whether it still serves them, and their internal battles in the journey not only to making it outside but also to letting others into their lives.
Greater character development would have brought this book up from a four-star read to a five. I felt that there was so much left unexplored when it came to both protagonists not only in their backstories but also in their interactions with each other and the outside world. This was especially true with the incredibly multifaceted character of Lu-Na, who could have benefited from a much deeper examination of their internal aspects and the inner workings of their mind.
Was Dark Pills all that I hoped it would be? No. But it was an enjoyable story and well worth a read. To me, it was a lighter conclusion to a deeper, darker series.
“Even if I’m making a stupid decision, my morbid curiousity propels me forward. Is this a betrayal or a misunderstanding?”
Dawn is finally free only to be captured again. But her jailer isn’t everything is thought they would be as she slowly unravels what makes them, them.
This is another fantastic instalment of the Dark Things series and gives a nice rounded ending. We finally discover more about the infamous Lu-Na from The Lavender Duet as well as learn more about the workings of the nefarious Comet International. This book will have you on the edge of your seat.
As always we get a fantastic building of sexual tension between our main characters, with a *chefs kisses* epilogue of pure heat!
The way the main characters (particularly the Lu-Na collective) are written is fantastic, moving away from the toxic stereotyping to give a whole new insight.
There are so many plot twists in this book that I can’t go into the usual level of detail for the review as I really don’t want to give anything away, but you will get suspense — sexual, action and rope 😉
I recieved an ARC read of this book. This is my first read by this author and the 1st of many more I hope. This author hit a homerun with this. The medical mental health knowlege research of building the characters has to be astronomical. The pure talent to not only create a character but to be able to have the reader understand it is profound. Beyond the amazing characters the story line was easy to follow and it was nice to see character growth and healing with a great ending. Amazing job to this author. People need to read this!!

This book is like a dark and twisted adult version of the kids movie Inside Out. One of the main characters has watched her father be murdered and now finds herself taken but not sure by whom. The more she interacts with her captors the more she figures things are not as them seem. Never been on her own before and unsure who is hunting her the MC has some tough decisions ahead of her. This was a great read and I loved the twisted aspect and multiple POVs.
Loved this book. I was definitely enjoying bouncing around with the personalities of lu-na . So many different emotions felt between them all when dawn came around. I was pleased with the ending and so happy that dawn was so accepting of the personalities rather than bail. Not only that but the personalities even learned to love dawn. Either way this book was amazing even with the flashbacks. Totally worth reading.
Dawn finds herself in a room locked up after her father dies. This was intense, suspenseful and even though it is a standalone reading the previous books gives you a better understanding. For me personally I like the seriesthey are full crazy twists but hard to put down.
Lainey Delaroque’s third book in her Dark Things series will take you for a ride with its many twists and turns. I enjoyed reading this book which had plenty of exciting adventure, mystery, suspense and steamy situations that made it hard to put down. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
Honestly. Not bad. I was thrown at the beginning with how it starts off and not having read the rest of the series I’m sure didn’t help. I don’t know if that would be entirely necessary but when other characters were mentioned I was definitely at a loss. And the DID thing made sense because up til that reveal the characters felt off to me. Do have to add a point to my kidnapping tally though
I thought it had an original storyline. It definitely kept me interested with all the twists and turns. There was suspense, angst, a bit of steam and more. Told in multiple POV, which I love. Overall, good read.
Dark pills is the third book in the dark things series. It could be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading books 1 and 2 first to give you a better idea of the characters. Once you start you can't stop. Loved this book.
I was intrigued from the first chapter. I felt as though I was there with all of them or was it only one? I enjoyed the plot twist after Dawn was taken from the apartment. Great read!
This is a great addition and ending to this series. I have been intrigued by the mysterious Lu-Na character and this went beyond expectations. This is a very mind bending twisty read that is so gratifying when it comes together. Loved it.
After what went down with the cult in the last book, Dawn finds herself in the big wide world which is totally new to her and is then captured, finding herself in a kiddie's room in some unknown apartment, wondering who the people are beyond the door.
Having read the previous 2 in the series, Dark Pills has to be my favourite of the 3 (surprising as usually it's the 1st book that's the fave)! It was such a fantastic read and sucked me in from the beginning with an incredible unique twist to the story. Lu-Na omg! Lu-Na! They were totally not what I envisioned after reading about them here and there in the other books. It really did make things interesting and kept you reading on. A brilliant dark romance thriller with some quite spicy scenes to go with it! Fantastic! I'm really going to miss these characters!
