Cheltenham Town are set to sign right wing-back Josh Williams on loan from Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old is likely to be one of two deadline day arrivals at the League One side along with a loan forward from a Premier League team.

Williams has so far made seven Championship appearances for his parent club, where he has been since the age of eight.

He shone for Bimingham's Under-21s as they beat Sheffield United in the Professional Development League National Final at Bramall Lane in May 2021.

Williams signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2021 and has also featured for the Blues in the FA Cup and EFL Cup, including his full debut at Norwich City.

He was rewarded for his progress with a new three-year contract at St Andrew's this summer.

Cheltenham have already signed two right wing-backs this summer in Liam Smith and Luciano D'Auria-Henry, but former Dundee United man Smith is currently sidelined with an ankle injury and Fulham loanee D'Auria-Henry (hamstring) also faces a significant spell out of action.

Former Birmingham midfielder Wade Elliott's Robins side play Barnsley at home in League One on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Williams started for Birmingham in their friendly at Whaddon Road last summer, when Cheltenham were 1-0 winners thanks to Alfie May's late goal.
