Digital Twin Roundtable
The Social Digital Twin was a special complimentary live 90-minute, virtual event that was held on February 17, 2022. During the event, moderated by Dr. Derrick de Kerckhove, a panel of subject matter experts focused on Digital Twins within society, the need for common sense among them, and their relationship within the metaverse(s).

During this virtual event, Vitalij Kazakov presented Personal Digital Twins and Their Socio-Morphic Networks, and the NTT Group focussed on how a society of personal digital twins can help support a harmonious physical society.
During the second part of the event, panelists explored the concept of the metaverse: Will it be the digital twin of Real Estate and start the game all over again? Or like when the Internet was first introduced, an opportunity for a new kind of social interaction?
This event provided participants with an opportunity to participate in a live Q&A. In addition, attendees discovered how leveraging Digital Twins, and other technologies being developed (such as AR/VR/MR/XR), continue to cause the line between the physical world and the digital world to become increasingly less distinct.

Event Moderator:
Derrick de Kerckhove is former Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture & Technology at the University of Toronto. Presently, scientific director of the Rome-based monthly Media Duemila, he is the author of a dozen books on technology, media, and culture edited in over twelve ten languages. Currently teaching Anthropology of communication at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, he is also Research Director at the Interdisciplinary Internet Institute (IN3) at l’Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Katarina Radovic received her master’s degree in communication design at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan Her thesis, mentored by professor Derrick de Kerckhove “Application of Intelligent Virtual Assistant for Alzheimer’s disease”, proposes a model to help them manage their day-to-day activities without relying on help. Presently, she is an assistant to professor Derrick de Kerchove at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, also a researcher and a designer at Media Duemila, an art director at new evolving company A&A and social media manager for L’Atlante.
Vitaly Kazakov is a former Associate Professor of the Faculty of Information Technology, Senior Researcher in the R&D Department of Novosibirsk State University, for the Head of Interdisciplinary and Humanitarian Programs in the field of Artificial Intelligence of the Fund “National Intellectual Development”. Currently, Vitaly is teaching as Associate Professor at Sochi State University, Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics.
Nina Panina is an Associate Professor at the Department of History, Culture and Arts, Novosibirsk State University. Degrees in history, philology, and art. In 1995 graduated from Novosibirsk State University, in 2002 – from the Higher School of Social Sciences (EHESS), Paris, France. Nina has degrees in history, philology, and art history. Since 2006 she has been involved with research supported by French and Russian scholarship programs on creativity and the interaction of different modes of perception, media, and cultural practices in creative work.
Dr. Lyuba Alboul is a Senior Research Fellow at the Industry and Innovation Research Institute, and a lecturer at the Department of Engineering and Mathematics, Sheffield Hallam University. She was the initiator of a research direction that fused VR, AR, XR with robotics technologies and has been awarded over 15 research grants (both personal and as a member of consortia) from local and international funding bodies in Russia, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK on subjects in Mathematics, Computing, 3D modeling, Robotics, and AI. Presently she is developing (together with Dr. Nisiotis) a new type of eco-systems that encompasses both physical and virtual environments, including real and artificial agents and elements, capable of interacting dynamically with, reflecting, and influencing each other and with the interactions engendered by human behavior.
Lidwina Andarini is a researcher in NTT Laboratories. Her research interest includes human digital twin and computer networking. Alongside research work, she is also in charge of inter-organization partnerships and standardization efforts. She graduated from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering and holds an M.E. from Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. She is also an active member of IEEE and served as a past-secretary for IEEE Tokyo Young Professional.
Shin-ichiro Eitoku received an M.E. and a Ph.D. in information science and technology from The University of Tokyo in 2006 and 2013, respectively. He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation(NTT) in 2006. He is now a Senior Research Engineer in NTT Digital Twin Computing Center. His research interests include information systems and multimedia systems for communications.
Yasuhiro Iida is currently with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in applied physics engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1998 and 2000. He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation in 2000.
