AR LENS CHALLENGE

SELF-PACED LEARNER TUTORIALS (WEBSITE)

Note: We recommend you use the materials below for creating external facing websites for learners to explore on their own prior to coming to a live Lens Lab or Office Hours. This self-paced approach enables a learner to come prepared to any live session and review materials prior to submitting their Lens.

Tutorial 2
Creating Memorable Reactions: Facial Elements

Hey there!

In the previous unit, you made your first Lens using the 2D Objects template.

In this unit, you will build a new Lens that manipulates faces using Face Paint or Distort functions.

By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to …

Lens Assets

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Step 1: Explore

Try out the following Face Paint Lenses:

And these Distort Lenses:

As you can see, Face Paint adds elements to your face as if they were painted on. Distort stretches, shrinks, and multiplies parts of your face to create illusions.

Step 2: Create (Option A)

It’s time to create your own Lens using one of the facial manipulations that we just explored.

For this activity, you will use the Face Paint template to paint a 2D texture onto your face.

  1. 👻 Open the Lens Studio software on your computer.
  2. 👻 Find and open the “Face Paint” template.

  1. 💻 Watch the following tutorial video with the captions on.
  2. 💻 Watch the tutorial video again, but this time, pause at each step and follow along on your own computer.
  1. 2:09 - Use the template Artboard in Photoshop to design a mask element
  2. 3:07 - Manipulate anchor points to adjust mask elements
  1. 👻 Spend a few more minutes finishing up your Lens and trying it directly on your Snapchat app!
  1. Actions to consider: replacing elements, changing textures, adding layers
  1. 💬 If you have any questions, try this resource or post your question on the Unit #2 Padlet.
