Some efforts to improve the world can be much more impactful than others. Smallpox eradication, the abolitionist movement, germ theory, and the Green Revolution demonstrate what's possible when people come together to solve big problems. But these opportunities to do tremendous good are few and far between. Doing good better—the core principle of Effective Altruism—requires thinking deeply about how to have a positive impact and having the tools to turn that knowledge into action to help make the world better.
EA at UT's Intro Fellowship is an 8 week discussion group that gives students the opportunity to explore the most pressing problems of our time—from climate change to nuclear security to AI safety—and think about how to best use our resources and careers to best solve those problems. Each week of the fellowship consists of 1 hour of reading and 1 hour of discussion in a cohort of 5-10 students.
For more information and a week-by-week curriculum, read through the Intro Fellowship details on our website before applying. Please submit applications by Saturday, February 10. If necessary, we may reach out to you after applications close for a quick interview to help us get to know you better.
Evidence suggests that underprivileged individuals tend to underestimate their abilities. We do not want the application process to dissuade potential candidates and we strongly encourage interested students to apply regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, etc. We also encourage both undergraduate and graduate/professional students, as well as individuals from all intellectual backgrounds and majors to apply.
