Maura na zámku v Bečo vě nad Teplou pocházející z valonského kláštera ve Florennes. Z těchto důvodů je náš kulturní pro gram zaměřen na novodobé spojnice: na světový rekord Emila Zátopka v Bruselu, na působení světoznámého botanika z Čech Benedikta Roezla či na společný objev dosud nejúčinnějšího léku proti AIDS. EN Dear friends, Allow me to address you in the context of the 2nd Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Prague–Brussels connection has always been an irreplaceable part of our history, as evidenced by the Czech word “brusle”, mean ing “skates”; the painting “Haymaking” by Flemish painter Pieter Bruegel in Prague’s Lobkowicz Palace; or the reliquary of Saint-Maur at the castle of Bečov nad Teplou, originally housed in the Walloon monastery of Florennes. For these rea sons, our cultural programme focuses on modern connec tions: Emil Zátopek’s world record in Brussels; the work of Benedikt Roezl, world-fa mous botanist from Bohemia; or the joint discovery of the most effective anti-AIDS drug to date. I wish you all original experiences!

On behalf of the Czech EU Presidency, it is my great pleasure to present the programme for the next half of the year. After an unconven tional start - a friendship run in pairs, commemorating the unusual relationship between Emil Zátopek and French runner Alan Mimoun – we will continue with exhibitions, con certs, and visual arts. Czech art adorns the walls of the Eu ropean Parliament; carpets in the shape of healing flowers, tapestries made of recycled textiles, and recycled tradition al Czech furniture infuse the European Council buildings with comfort; photographs of the Czech Republic’s natural and architectural beauty can delight you in front of the European Commission. All information about the cultural programme can be found on the eu2022.cz website. There, you can also find previews of key Czech books and short animated films on freedom and human rights, which will be one of the main themes of the last two months of the Presidency. The other projects you will find in this brochure are organised by our partners. Today we feel the strength and unity of Europe, which grows out of its diversity. Culture is an integral part of this. I hope you will find our programme inspiring.

FR Chers amis de la culture tchèque, C’est avec une immense joie que je vous présente, au nom de la Présidence tchèque de l’UE, le pro gramme de la 2e moitié de l’année. Après une inaugura tion peu ordinaire – la course de l’amitié en duo – nous poursuivons avec des expo sitions, concerts ou encore avec des oeuvres de beauxarts. L’art tchèque orne les murs du Parlement européen, tapis en forme de fleurs et ta pisseries décorent le Conseil de l’UE et une exposition des plus beaux lieux tchèques –naturels aussi bien qu’u bains – enchante le public devant la Commission euro péenne. CZ Jak do programu otisknout unikátní pohled předsedající země a zároveň zachovat evropskou relevanci? Česká centra po celém světě přispívají k debatě o udržitel nosti, inovacích a kreativitě jakožto evropských hod notách. Tvořivost a inovace spolu v našem programu úzce souvisí. V Čechách se pyšníme mimořádně boha tým kulturním dědictví, které ale stále žije se současnými tvůrci a jejich dialogem se symboly minulosti. Brusel tak uvidí dnešní filmový pohled na ikony různých žánrů –Václava Havla, Josefa Myslivečka či Emila Zátop ka, zavlají zde variace na českou a evropskou vlajku od současných umělců, zazáří vycházející hvězdy evropského módního nebe, a na závěr si užijeme koncert velkých jmen současného jazzu spolu s jejich nejnada nějšími žáky. Rádi doplňuje me bohatou matérii evropské kreativity i v oblastech jako je umělá inteligence. Jako memento doby slouží účast ukrajinských tvůrců. How to contribute to a wider EU debate while bringing unique insights from the pre siding country? The Czech Centres around the world aim to contribute to the debate on European values of creativity, sustainability and innovation. Creativity and innovation go often hand in hand. In Czechia, we are proud of our immensely rich cultural heritage. However, far from being a thing of the past; contemporary creators often engage in dialogue with this heritage. We are thus bringing to Brussels today’s view of the icons from various fields – Václav Havel, Josef Mysliveček, and Emil Zátopek; contemporary artists’ renditions of Czech and European flags will fly high above the streets of the city; rising stars in the fashion world will shine bright; and big names in the jazz scene will perform with their most talented alumni. We are also an integral part of European creativity fabric in domains such as artificial intelligence. Notably, multiple contribu tions by Ukrainian artists will serve as a memento of our times. The symbolic space in Brussels is essential – and the Czech Republic fills it with pride, originality, and enthusiasm.

Les Centres tchèques du monde entier contribuent au débat sur la durabilité, l’innovation et la créativité en tant que valeurs européennes – la créativité et l’innovation sont étroitement liées dans notre programme. En Tchéquie, de nombreux ar tistes mènent le dialogue avec le patrimoine culturel et les symboles du passé. Bruxelles verra donc un nouveau regard porté par les cinéastes sur les personnalités de renom –Václav Havel, Josef Mysliveček ou encore Emil Zátopek, la symbolique des drapeaux tchèque et européen sera redessinée par les artistes contemporains sous la forme d’une installation dans les rues, les créateurs de mode émer geant défileront et les stars de la scène du jazz tchèque se produiront sur scène en guise de clôture de la Présidence avec leurs élèves talentueux. Nous contribuons également au domaine effervescent de l’IA, tout en accordant l’espace nécessaire aux artistes ukrain iens, tel un mémento de notre époque. L’espace symbolique est important à Bruxelles – et la République tchèque y con tribue avec fierté, fraîcheur et enthousiasme.

Un projet d’art dans l’espace public dans les rues Ar chimède, Franklin et Stevin, près du Berlaymont (Bâ timent de la Commission européenne). Réunis pour réimaginer l’esthétique et la signification actuelles du drapeau tchèque et de celui de l’UE, les vingt-trois artistes provenant de onze pays, dont l’Ukraine, vont en créer leurs propres interprétations.

A public art project in Rue Archimède, Rue Franklin and Rue Stevin – just next to the European Com mission. Twenty-three artists from eleven countries, including Ukraine, came together to re-imagine the aesthetics and meanings of Czech and European flags and to create their own interpretations of them.

MENTAL SPACE, MENTAL LANDSCAPE Exhibition presenting the work of Čestmír Suška and Michael Škoda. These two artists work with abstract form to tell a story capturing the essence of enjoy ment and experiences. While Škoda is known for his minimalistic and monochrome paintings, Suška focus es on sculptures and their relation to the universe.

13 MEET CZECH LITERATURE

Literární program českého předsednictví představí nejvýraznější jména současné české prózy a poezie. V září pozve Alenu Mornštajnovou (22. 9.), v říjnu uvede nový překlad sbírky básní Petra Hrušky (12. 10.), v listopadu nabídne diskuzi Jáchyma Topola a Markéty Pilátové (30. 11.). K programu je v prosinci (5. 12.) volně přiřazena konference o české literatuře po roce 1989, od července do prosince jsou na webových stránkách eu2022.cz zpřístupně ny úryvky z prezentovaných děl.

The Czech Presidency features a selection of literary events with outstanding Czech authors. On 22 September, Alena Mornštajnová reads from her acclaimed novel Hana, while Petr Hruška launches a brand-new translation of his poetry on 12 October; Passa Porta hosts a discussion between Markéta Pilátová and Jáchym Topol on 30 November. On 5 December, scholars will discuss the state of the Czech literature post-1989. Excerpts by all the invited authors are available throughout the season online at eu2022.cz.

The performance by the Dejvice Theatre tells the story of an AIDS drug molecule and its “fathers”. In the context of the “Design and Transformation” project (Design Museum Brussels), and as part of Brussels Design September, the Czech Landscape installation will take place in Brussels’ Prague House. The installation will present examples of the work car ried out by professors, graduates and students of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM). The natural inspiration drawn from Czech landscapes coincides with other parts of the exhi bition in the Prague House, where natural elements are imprinted into glass design objects and more.

Instalace prezentuje ukázky tvorby profesorů a ab solventů pražské Vysoké školy uměleckoprůmyslové. Přírodní inspirace souzní s dalšími částmi expozice – do skleněných komponentů instalace Herbarium jsou vtištěny rostliny a větvičky z Lužických hor, v zahradě je poté prezentován exteriérový městský mobiliář. MANNEKEN PIS IN BLUEPRINT IN HONOUR OF THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Manneken Pis will once again be dressed in his outfit decorated with blueprint modrotisk motif. The blueprint is inscribed in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. According to a local tradition, after careful consideration by advisors, the world-famous peeing boy accepts his outfits as a gift from foreign statespersons. He received his first outfit from the Czech Republic in 2020.

48 CHRISTMAS CONCERT OF CZECH INSPIRATION The Christmas concert, presenting Jakub Jan Ryba’s traditional Christmas Mass, will be performed by the Choir of Brussings (Brusinky) led by Darina Krausová. Its proceeds will be donated to a selected charity organisation. After the concert, participants will be invited to a small meal in the spirit of Czech and Slovak Christmas traditions. VÁNOČNÍ KONCERT ČESKÉ INSPIRACE Během tradičního Vánočního koncertu, kde zazní Vánoční mše Jakuba Jana Ryby, vystoupí pod ve dením sbormistryně Dariny Krausové Sbor Brusinky/ Brussings. Výtěžek bude věnován na vybraný cha ritativní účel. Po koncertě budou účastníci pozváni na občerstvení v duchu českých a slovenských vánočních tradic. Multižánrový večer představí přední české hudební ky Beatu Hlavenkovou, Radka Baboráka a Marcela Bártu, kteří se svými talentovanými studenty z Akade mie MenART uvedou tu nejnovější tvorbu, a tím tak symbolicky na závěr předsednictví předají štafetu nejmladší generaci. Veřejné slyšení na téma výjimeč ného systému českého uměleckého vzdělávání se uskuteční 5. prosince v Evropském parlamentu.

A multi-genre evening event, featuring outstand ing Czech musicians Beata Hlavenková, Radek Baborák and Marcel Bárta. They will present their newest work in cooperation with their most talented students from the MenART Academy to symbolically pass the baton to the youngest generation. A public hearing on the Czech artistic education as an exceptional system will be held on December 5th in the European Parliament.
