AAPS Supports Ethically Conducted, Accessible, and Credible Research
Association Offers Resources for National Ethics Awareness Month

Arlington, VA—AAPS supports credible research and joins other science organizations in recognizing National Ethics Awareness Month and the importance of ethically conducted and accessible research in the pharmaceutical sciences.

As a non-profit society of more than 7,000 pharmaceutical scientists, AAPS members continually contribute to the body of science through four highly regarded scientific journals led by editors committed to rigorous peer review standards. The association also offers numerous scientific meetings that feature sessions and posters vetted by experts in the field.

“Today’s pharmaceutical industry is awash in ideas, research, technologies, and other changes that will improve the lives of people worldwide,” AAPS Executive Director Tina Morris, Ph.D. said. “But research conducted according to ethical standards is critical to ensuring that science moves as quickly as possible toward the cures and therapies patients need.

“We urge our members and all those who train, mentor, coach, and support tomorrow’s scientists to commit to the ethical standards at the foundation of credible research. It’s a standard we hold ourselves to in our meetings and journals, and we hope every lab and company will do the same.”

“Whether you work in large pharma or a small biotech firm or in academia, adhering to ethical research practices is critical to ensuring that the new products we bring to market are safe and effective,” said AAPS President Gopi Shankar, Ph.D., M.B.A., FAAPS. “I’m proud to be part of AAPS, an organization that facilitates real and accurate science. The editors of our four journals work diligently to ensure ethical peer review practices, and our committees and screeners review programming and poster proposals so that only the most innovative and trustworthy science is showcased at AAPS events.”

In recognition of National Ethics Awareness Month, AAPS will feature articles in the AAPS Newsmagazine. AAPS members can also access last year’s popular webinar series on writing for peer-reviewed publications, including “Retractions Are On The Rise, But Not Enough,” a webinar featuring Retraction Watch’s Ivan Oransky, M.D.
