Event description

Calling all up-and-coming South Australian writers, directors and producers: learn about low budget filmmaking and find a team for Film Lab: New Voices at this special film screening and networking event.

Co-funded by the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), Adelaide Film Festival and Screen Australia, the Film Lab: New Voices program is once again open for applications, offering three South Australian filmmaking teams the chance to develop their first low-budget feature through a 12-month development program. At the completion of the Lab, one team will be selected to receive $600,000 in screen production grant funding with their film to premiere the Adelaide Film Festival in 2026.

All prospective Film Lab applicants are invited to this free screening of South Australian made sci-fi The Infinite Man, written and directed by Hugh Sullivan, and produced by Kate Croser and Sandy Cameron.

The Infinite Man is one of several critically acclaimed films to come out of the SAFC's original FilmLab program which ran from 2009 to 2012, along with Shut Up Little Man and 52 Tuesdays. It was selected to screen in the Visions program at SXSW in 2014, won the Silver Raven Jury Prize at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy and the New Flesh (Best First Film) Award at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. It was released in cinemas nationally in Australia, and was nominated for a number of awards including the AACTA, SPA and Australian Film Critics Association Awards.

Come along to The Mercury Cinema to watch the film, participate in a Q&A to learn more about low budget filmmaking with producer Sandy Cameron, and enjoy some refreshments and networking. This is also an opportunity for creatives to connect and form writer/director/producer teams for Film Lab: New Voices.
