Rate this book
From the best selling romance author that brought you Hike, Hike Baby comes a brand new, laugh-out-loud comedy about trying not to drown in the trickery waters of love and life ... Budget cuts. Beach candy. Baby stingrays being called baby sharks resulting in momentary mass panic. All part of the gig for lifeguard section chief, Brooklyn Headley. Between uncomfortably long work shifts and pineapple infused family meals, life is almost painfully predictable. That is until Scott "Ax" Maxwell throws her a lifesaver. Now she's slow dancing to ukulele covers, trying not to fall off surfboards, and engaging in some not so conventional activities between the sheets. Their fun times, however, meet new waves of trouble when her younger sister unexpectedly needs a specific type of help that Ax is capable of providing. Can their relationship survive the uncharted, choppy waters ahead, or will Brooklyn be forced back to the boring shore she knows all too well?

Good, but possibly a bit too surfer authentic!

The following ratings are each out of 5:
Romance: 💜🖤🤍💙💚
Steam: 🧖🏼‍♀‍🧖🏻🧖🏽‍♀‍🧖🏼
Story/Plot: 📘📗📕
World building: 🏝🏖🏝🏖🏝
Character development: 🙍🏻‍♂‍🙎🏼‍♀‍🙍🏽‍♀‍🙎🏼‍♂‍

The setting: Hawaii
The Hero: Ax, a nearly 40 year old, blonde, tan, surfer, who owns a trendy thrift shop on the side.
The Heroine: Brooklyn, early 30’s, a Lifeguard Section Chief who has had a series of bad first dates.

The premise sounded fun, but the book moved a bit slowly for my tastes and I had trouble with all the beach, ocean, and surfing references. It was explained early on that both Ax and Brooklyn love the sea. Ax surfs every day and Brooklyn is a lifeguard, so she works at the beach. While in college, both of them looked into majors like marine biology and oceanography but ended up going a different way.

The setting is in Hawaii, so there is plenty of talk of sand and the many of the restaurants serve seafood such as oysters so between her job, the setting and his love of surfing there would automatically be a lot of talk about these things, but in addition to that, they both use nautical and surfer references in their everyday language as well, so it seemed like an overwhelming abundance. For example, Ax uses the idiom “hand to board” as in surf board instead of “hand to God”. Ax even thinks in surfing terms:

“Monogamy isn’t exactly a board I’m used to riding, yet it’s the only one that seems right when it comes to the wave known as Brooklyn Headley.”

Aside from the numerous aquatic themed references and idioms, the story was a bit slow moving. I liked the romance for how fast Ax and Brooklyn were falling for each other, but their dates were pretty boring at the beginning. They seemed to only serve the purpose of getting as many oceanographic and surfing references out there.

At one point I thought to myself that it seemed like the author either really researched surfers and ocean lovers and wanted to display all that research, or she is familiar with surfing and surfers and wanted to sell the characters and setting as much as possible so she interjected as many references as possible. In the end it seemed to be too much and I didn’t enjoy the “getting to know you” part of the relationship as much as I would have if it was more concise and to the point. I was wishing there would be more chemistry between the two of them and less chemistry between each of them and the ocean.

“Those details will be being discussed before we surf on down to Naked Town. It’s not as though I feel like I’m receiving fling treatment, I just wanna make sure I’m not trying to scuba dive if that’s not what the waters are intended for.”

That is not to say that the surfer dude talk made it a bad experience. I really liked the premise of the book, and the characters themselves. The setting of Hawaii and the beach was fantastic. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii and probably never will so this setting is great. I love books with vacation like settings. It is nice to imagine having a job either at the beach or being able to surf every day. It makes sitting at a computer for 10+ hours a day a little more tolerable.

The book was also quite steamy and the steamy scenes just made me laugh a bit because they were so filled with aquatic wording and images, that it didn’t bother me any more, but actually started being a somewhat campy and fun. Overall I enjoyed the this story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was a lot of fun to read!!

Brooklyn hasn’t had much luck in the dating department. After meeting a guy online for a date, which turns out to be awful, she is saved by a handsome stranger named Axe, bailing her out pretending there’s been a “family” emergency and decided to go on a date themselves! The banter between these two was amazing, super funny, silly and water themed always lol! They were definitely soulmates with the same great sense of humor. But Axe was keeping a little secret that could ruin everything they have going together.

This was my first book by Xavier Neal and I was definitely not disappointed! Her words flow so well. I loved everything about this book and I’m really looking forward to reading more stories from her!

Baewatch is sweet, emotional and funny. This is the perfect story of fate. The way this couple meets had me laughing and gushing. You just have to read it to see.
So beautifully told it was hard to put down. I love a man who owns up to his mistakes and Ax is that man.
Xavier has been my go-to author for a while now, and I swear every book she writes is dipped in gold.

Wow.. I loved this book from the very first page to the very last page. Brooklyn is such a spitfire that I fell in love with her from the second she started speaking and Scott “ax” maxwell captured my heart. I need a man like that around my area. They both have obstacles that they needed to overcome and that included how to stand up for what you believe in and seeing how they overcame everything reminded to always try to be a better person. Seriously grab this book and really take the time to read it!!!

P.s. if you love hot surfers than read this book!!!

This was a 4.5 ⭐️ read
Really enjoyed Ax and Brooklyn’s story.
I thought their chemistry was hot and loved the easy going banter they had with each other.
I enjoyed the 80s/90s pop culture references, made e smile every time.
I was a heartwarming, fun loving story.
Appreciated the fact that these guys weren’t perfect and were willing to own up to that fact. They made mistakes but were willing to say sorry.
The only thing I did feel needed changing was the many surf/ocean/beach references. At first it was cute but soon felt repetitive.
Overall though a great read.

Oh my gosh! Baewatch is an incredible story about the perfect kismet. Move over Ariel and Eric, there is another golden beach couple. Ax is a goofy, go with the flow guy that enjoys life. He owns his mistakes and can be serious when he needs to be. Brooklyn is a feisty pineapple. If you mess with her you will get the spikes, but if you open up to her you will find a sweet, fun center. Ax and Brooklyn just go together like salt and the ocean. You can't help but have a constant smile when they tease each other. Their relationship makes you feel light and happy. In my opinion, this is Neal's sweetest story yet.

I am so in love with Ax and Brooklyn! This book kept me giggling, laughing and totally on my toes, not knowing who was going to say what amazing thing next. There were moments that touched my heart which just added to my love of these characters. The story is perfect, the characters are great and I wish I could read it again for the first time. I'm hoping we get to visit with some of the other characters again but Ax and Brooklyn have moved to the top of my list of favorite couples. If I could give this more than five stars, I would.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I immersed myself so fully in this world. I got lost in the pages and never wanted to come up for air. The characters so easily came to life for me. The dual POVs give a well rounded view of the characters, their thoughts and vulnerabilities as they take this voyage together on rocky open waters. Their humor, carefree, and supportive attitude was heartwarming. From those little awkward moments when your insides are all a flutter to the heated stares that lead to so much more, I just could not get enough of them. The emotions are real and you feel them in every word. Their connection was vibrant and their chemistry ignited a fire in me that had me breathless and panting for more. One of the best Rom Com’s I’ve ever read. It dripped authenticity and hooked every piece of my beach lover’s soul.

*******

I just wanted to say I was born and raised in a beach community. I was a water baby and took to swimming early on. The beach will forever hold a very special place in my heart. So I may be a tad over critical of the way beach life is portrayed on film and in books. Somehow she captures it brilliantly in this charming story that had me swooning immediately. It’s deeply ingrained in the characters and helps form pieces of their personalities. I adored how they shared that passion and the bond that grew between them over it. They are each way more than they seem and I loved diving deep into their hidden depths to find the priceless treasures that was their hearts.

Book Review: Baewatch
Author: Xavier Neal
FIVE STARS
This book is great. The dynamics of the characters and their magnetic personalities totally complement each other. Xavier Neal is a brilliant author who steps outside the norms of romance and writes diverse characters who make life better for themselves and everyone they come in contact with.
In Baewatch we meet Brooklyn and Ax. They both share a love of the water and seem to bond quickly.
This book is great and I can't wait to read more from Xavier Neal.

This is a brand new complete standalone.

Baewatch is a funny, witty, and charming story that follows Ax and Brooklyn. They have a meet cute and it's impossible not to feel their chemistry almost immediately.

As soon as the story opens, you are quickly transported to the beach. The story is engaging and smartly written. This story will have you swooning and laughing out loud. The side characters are just as engaging as the main characters. I also love the easter eggs that Neal is notorious for.

If you are looking for a fun summer read with all the feels, you'll gobble up this story.

I found it impossible not to fall head over heels for this charming rom-com. From the moment that Ax and Brooklyn meet, you just know that this is going to be a epic, all the feels, have you laughing and leave you swooning romance. It's cute, it's sweet, it's funny and it's heartfelt. This smartly written story captures your attention quickly, has characters that keep you fully invested and an overall genuine feeling that makes it all that much more relatable and potent. The chemistry is simply undeniable and if you are like me, you will be getting that whole meant to be vibe pretty much from the first chapter. The characters are unique, quirky, flawed and as is the norm for this author, so much more than what you see on the surface. This couple and their story totally swept me away and brought some much needed joy and brightness into my day. Of my own accord I am posting my candid review.

Ax and Brooklyn are an adorable couple! They are two beach lovers who meet and feel an instant connection. Their love for all things beach/ocean related is seen throughout their story and is one of the most endearing things about their story. They of course go through their ups and downs but this is a HEA and I know that if you read this you will love it! I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Baewatch is the most perfect beach read you could ask for. Brooklyn and Ax are match made in Beach Heaven. She's a Lifeguard Chief and He's a beachbum /lawyer. The one thing they are together is perfect for each other. Xavier Neal knocked this book out of the park. I can't wait to see what she's going to wow us with next.

Baewatch is a rom-com that is full of “sunshines and seashells”. It makes you laugh, and at times shakes your head. It shows the different types of relationships and how it forms people into who they become. “Encouragement is one of the most underrated things in this life.”
I truly enjoyed Baewatch by Xavier Neal and can not wait to read more of her books.

Perfect Wave of Chemistry and Humor

I loved Brooklyn and Ax’s story. Xavier Neal wrote a story about finally finding your soulmate in the most unexpected way and learning how to deal with the ripples of life.
Brooklyn was looking for love on all the wrong dating sites. She is a strong independent woman who loves her job and the community she serves.
Ax on the other hand isn’t really interested in a long term relationship. Very few people know his true identity because he doesn’t like that part of his life.
After an unexpected meeting, their chemistry is almost instantaneous and is mixed with a natural comedic connection. These two were so much fun to read. There are some serious parts to their relationship as well.
I truly loved reading Brooklyn and Ax’s story. With a storyline that is a combination of fun in the sun and the seriousness of life along with the multidimensional character development, Baewatch is a must read. It’s the perfect beach read or a way to escape the winter blues. I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were not influenced by the author or her promotional team.

Aw Ax and Brooklyn! I so adore them! I really loved this story. I love their meet cute, their building relationship and all the trials they have to go through. This story has a very realistic feel to it. I can relate to so many of the family issues that Brooklyn deals with and I know people like Ax's family. I totally understand the way Brooklyn deals with stress and I love that Ax finds ways to help her process. I love that it's not a story about the words but the actions, about understanding that the actions speak louder than words ever could. I adore all the puns and the play on words. I also love all the ocean references and 100% get the sentiment behind it. They might very well be my new favorite couple. Great story-telling, perfect pace, wonderful cast of characters, a great read!

This book was given to me for a review. I really thought this was going to be a book about lifeguards and all the drama that came with that. However, it was not about that, it was about Ax a super hot almost forty beach lover, and Brooklyn a Chief lifeguard who loves the beach and pineapples unconditionally. There were a few twists and turns I did not see coming. For instance Ax's secret about who he was raised to be and Brooklyn's law bending sister. I loved how easily and quickly they fell in love and met. The first few chapters were just easy bliss. No matter what they stuck together. Their love for the ocean and each other was so pure. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a change of pace from a regular structure to a heartfelt romance book.

10 SUNSHINE AND SEASHELLS STARS! I adored Ax and Brooklyn’s book so much. This story had me from the beginning. This couple has so much love to give to us as readers!!! Their adventures in dating is off the charts and comical! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Both of them vibe so well together, and are a match made in heaven. They couldn’t have picked a better person to be with in my opinion. If you wanting something funny, light hearted, swoon worthy, and with some kink this is definitely one of my top reads this year!

Brooklyn & Bea🌞🐚

Sunshine and seashells... this book was amazing. The two had so much in common like their love of the beach and ocean. But still had differences like their family views. Brooklyn was very family oriented but Ax didn’t mind the distance from his parents. As all ways it all worked out for a HEA❤️

My first, but definitely not my last, Xavier Neal romcom

After joining an exclusive matchmaking company, Brooklyn finds herself on a date with the worse kind of man imaginable, and he can’t even remember her name, so when a mysterious strange4 appears to rescue her calling her by name and telling he4 there’s a family emergency, she is a little panicked... until he says it’s her brother, then she realises he’s her saviour, see a Brooklyn doesn’t have a brother, and the gorgeous blonde surfer who just saved her, becomes her new favourite person.

Brooklyn and Axe’s romance has its ups and downs, lots of humour and a great storyline. For a surfer and a lifeguard, what more can you expect than an ocean themed love story where the pair ride the waves. They are soulmates, a connection which begins from the moment they meet, and like the waves Ax rides, their coupling is anything but smooth sailing, but in the end, they will be riding the waves together.

I enjoyed the dynamic between Brooklyn and Axe, I loved the lightness between them, and was happy to see both Ax and Brooklyn own up to their mistakes. A beautiful romance with the best epilogue, my favourite part.

Yes! This story was just what in needed! Brooklyn and Ax are this summer’s hottest and funnest couple. Of course everything isn’t alway perfect, but then again, it shouldn’t be. This book will definitely keep you on your toes. Their chemistry is off the charts.

All the pop culture references did my 80’s and 90’s loving heart good. I smiled or giggled with every reference. They definitely took me back, for a tiny bit, each time.

Everything about this story was fun loving, heartwarming, and nostalgic. If your looking for a great escape, especially these days, you totally need to give it a read!
