FEATURE STORY CONDORS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC LOCKED DOWN ryan Holt | bakersfield condors

That structure is something the Condors will need this weekend as the high-flying Texas Stars come to town for two games. They have the best power play at 26.2% and are the only AHL team averaging four goals a contest. The Stars And if you don’t believe them, just are led by rookie sensation Logan take a look at the numbers: 2.69 goals against overall per game, Stankoven who has 13 goals in 17 games to start his professional 6th in the AHL 22 even strength goals against in 13 career. games, a 1.69 average 5 wins when scoring the opening goal, locking down the opposition The age old adage is “defense wins championships.” And through 13 games this season, the Condors are showing how their defensive foundation can lead to success.

“There’s a reason why people like vanilla ice cream,” said fourth-year blueliner and alternate captain Phil Kemp. “We just keep it simple, trust our structure, and guys are buying in.”

Styles make fights and these two teams this weekend could not have more contrasting styles.

FEATURE STORY “It’s about us,” said head coach Colin Chaulk. “How we want the game to be dictated, how we want to have all five guys connected and moving in unison, and how we want to establish ourselves as a difficult team to play against.”

“Gleas has been a great addition,” said Kemp. “Great guy, great teammate and a true pro. It’s a pleasure playing with him.” Being hard to play against. Being strong five on five. And locking things down defensively. That’s the key for the Condors as the schedule flips to December, the games pick up in volume, and the central division leaders come barreling into town.

The additions on the blueline this season, brought a former Stars rival westward with the addition of Ben Gleason. He’s started his Condors career with six points (1g-5a) in 12 games and leads the backend with a +3.

SCOTT HOWSON PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE

The AHL is as proud as ever of its role in developing nearly all of the players, coaches, executives, trainers, broadcasters and officials who you see throughout the National Hockey League today. Generations of our great fans have cheered on future superstars, Stanley Cup champions and Hockey Hall of Famers as they have come through the AHL. This season is sure to be another memorable one, from the excitement of opening night to the pageantry of the AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose to the thrills and emotion of the Calder Cup Playoffs. On behalf of all of our teams, thank you for your continuing support of the AHL. Sincerely,

Scott Howson President & CEO | American Hockey League
