The NC Hunger Corps is an AmeriCorps VISTA project sponsored by North Carolina Campus Compact. North Carolina Campus Compact is a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility, partnering with communities for positive change, and strengthening democracy. The NC Hunger Corps VISTA will serve with a college or community-based organization to support on-campus or off-campus food security programs that target low-income or disadvantaged college students, staff, and community members. These programs may include campus or community gardens, food recovery efforts modeled on the Campus Kitchen Project or the Food Recovery Network, food pantries, and fresh produce distribution (mobile markets). Hunger Corps members may also work to raise awareness about nutrition and healthy eating. As a Hunger Corps member you will have the opportunity to recruit and train volunteers, design and manage programs including days of service, build systems, networks, and relationships, participate in professional development and much more! Corps members should have a demonstrated passion for food security work with disadvantaged communities, experience working or volunteering with low-income children and families, as well as strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven leadership, project management abilities, and a strong interest & experience in college/university community service programs are also essential skills for this position. Service placements are located across the state of North Carolina. Join the Hunger Corps and be a part of a service cohort striving to fight food insecurity across North Carolina! Housing support provided. Some placements offer on-campus benefits such as access to meal plan, gym, library, and more.
