Heaton Hotline - Week 7, Term 3
We nurture and inspire every child to dream big.
Principal Message
Good afternoon everyone,
Thanks to everybody who came out to our Book Week Parade on Thursday. It is so lovely to see these traditional community events returning as we navigate our way out of the pandemic. Schools are about connection and we love having our community in to share in the children's experiences at Heaton.
A big thank you to Simon Wait for opening the parade with his incredible dinosaur costume. You are very talented!
The school has purchased 7 new state-of-the-art smart boards that will be installed in every classroom this Thursday. The boards are valuable technology to assist in student learning.
I hope to see lots of dads at our Father's Day Breakfast on Friday morning.
Have a great week.
Mr Hilton
Fathers Day Breakfast
We would like to invite all of our dads, uncles, grandads and carers to a breakfast at school. This will take place in the school hall from 7:45am this Friday 2nd September.
There will be egg and bacon rolls, egg and cheese rolls (Halal - cooked on a separate BBQ) and coffee.
We can't wait to see you on the day!
Heaton's "Dream Big" School Concert
Our Dream Big concert will take place on Thursday 15th September at 6:30pm. It will be first in best in terms of seats. We are asking for a gold coin donation per person to watch the concert if families can spare this. If you can't that's no problem, just come along and enjoy our concert. The gold coin donation will go towards the costume elements provided.
A note will go home this week about the costume your child will be wearing.
Healthy Harold - Life Education
Healthy Harold will be visiting the school during Week 9 of this term. A note will go out to students tomorrow. The cost is $12. Please return the note and money if you would like your child to attend by Tuesday 6th September.
Intercultural Grant
Heaton has applied for an intercultural grant that is aimed at connecting our community. We have been successful in the initial round of shortlisting. We then had a Zoom session where we outlined our proposal for the grant. Our student ambassadors were part of this process. We are now waiting to see if we make the final thirty schools who receive the grant.
Marathon for Zara's House
Mr Hilton and Mr Taylor are in training to run the 42.2km Sydney Marathon on September 18. Mr Harris is running the 21.1 half marathon. We want to give back to our community so we are raising money for Zara's House. Zara's House is in Jesmond and they support refugees as they settle into Australia by providing English lessons, a pre-school for children and safe place to access support. If you would like to donate a few dollars you can do so by clicking the link below. The donation is tax deductible.

Fundraiser for Sulaiman
Congratulations to our school captain Sulaiman for representing the Hunter region at the NSW state competition. Sulaiman will represent the Hunter at the state cricket competition We are holding a fundraiser on the last day of term to support Sulaiman's fees for the competitions. Our Student Parliament discussed fundraising ideas at the sitting of parliament last week.
Here is Sulaiman's recount of his week away at the soccer competition.
It all began as we headed off from Newcastle to Griffith. It took us nearly 8 hours to get to Griffith. The next day, it was match day. I got up early in the morning at 6:00am and began to get ready. Finally, I got to the ground. First we had to take our team photo. After that, my team began to train for our first match which was against one of the top Sydney teams. In the second game we versed McCillop, another Sydney team. We ended up losing that game 2-0. Finally, our last match of the day was against South Sydney, the match was very hard and intense and the game ended in a draw. The next day we played three matches and won all of them. The matches were against North Coast, North West and Riverina. I scored four goals in these three matches and assisted in three. The next day we had our final match which was against Polding. I ended up scoring the winning goal and the final score was 1-0. Our team finished third in our pool so we narrowly missed our place in the semi final. Also, they ended up selecting the state team from the kids who got in the semi-finals and final but I still had a great time.
Make Online Payments
It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the school’s website by selecting $ Make a payment.
Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ to cover items not covered in the previous headings, ‘Other’ can be used to make a complete payment of a school Statement of Account.
When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:
· the students name
· class
· date of birth
These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.
You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed.
Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school.
For any enquiries regarding the online payment process please contact the School
Administration Office.
