Porsche Plagued with Problems & Pace at Le Mans |
There was no shortage of hype and eager anticipation for the 100th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche was poised and ready to add to their record win streak at the famed La Sarthe circuit with four 963’s in the field. But as they say, “Le Mans lets you win”, and the greatest endurance race was exceptionally challenging with a series of unfortunate events and an overall lack of speed compared to the competition.
Porsche appeared to be out-gunned in the power department, qualifying 5th, 6th, 7th and 10th, but Le Mans is a race of survival, determination and of course a little luck. The 963 showed moments of promise, but they were short lived and overshadowed by struggles and the dominance of Ferrari, Toyota and Cadillac. When the checkered flag finally fell the highest finishing 963 placed 9th in class and 16th overall making for a very forgettable factory effort at Le Mans.
Porsche fared only slightly better in the LM GTE Am category claiming the final step on the podium. The Porsches were considerably more competitive in this class and occasionally led the field, but attrition, struggles and strong competition favored the Corvette. Third place was achieved by # 86 GB Racing team 911 GT3 R (992) that finished ahead of the Iron Dames all-women 911 GT3 R team.
Congratulations to Ferrari on a fantastic race and their first overall Le Mans victory in 58 years.

FAQ Corner
#11 - Do I need to make any changes to my ECU/DME after installing the Plenum?
Only in very high-power turbo systems are the limits of the stock mass air meter exceeded and provisions need to be made, but short of that the plenum will not cause any calibration issues. But that being said… A quality ECU tune from a qualified tuner can further complement any Plenum (and potential larger TB) and extract additional engine performance |

Chris Harris Test Drives the new 911 Dakar |
Is the new 911 Dakar an automotive “Do It All” Swiss Army Knife, or is it just another glorified niche model trying to capitalize on Porsche’s prosperous and storied motorsport history? Watch our favorite test driver, Chris Harris, perform some hot laps around Lydden Hill in the UK as he evaluates the capabilities and fun factor of this latest off-road offering from Stuttgart. Of course, the only thing that would make it more fun would be the addition of 30 WHP and 25 WTQ with our 992 Carrera Plenum. |

Steady progress continues with the body development of our bespoke 550. The front section of the car is basically done and ready to be welded together off the buck and then “married” to the chassis. Shaping of the rear sections has begun as well and should be considerably easier and faster to build than the front.
We are on schedule to “marry” the front of the body to the chassis, and complete all the close-outs, inner structures, and interior this June and July. We are also putting the finishing touches on the “new and improved” 993 engine that will catapult our 1800-pound Spyder down the road. More 550 updates coming your way soon as we pick up the pace.

963 Livery for Le Mans Pays Homage to Past Porsche Glory |
Penske is showing up to the 100th Anniversary of Le Mans with three 963’s that will all feature a unique design and color combination that utilize colors from previous successful Porsche liveries, including the Pink Pig, Hippie Car, Gulf, Martini, Rothmans, Salzburg and DHL. Distinguishing the 3 cars (especially at night) might be challenging since the only differences in paint schemes will be the color of the dorsal fins on top of the engine hood (Black, White & Red). |
