Game day at Washburn is one of the best environments in the country! There is no shortage of support from the Washburn community - the Ichabods attendance ranked 19th in the country last year averaging more than 5,200 fans per game. Find thousands of people camped out in the north bowl tailgating before the game!
BIANCHINO LOCKER ROOM
The Bianchino Locker Room houses more than 120 football student-athletes. Located in Whiting Fieldhouse, the Bianchino Locker Room is directly connected to the Capitol Federal Strength and Conditioning Center. Plans are in place for a football student-athlete lounge to be finished by August of 2020.
GAME CHANGER
Washburn is home to one of the top Indoor Facilities in the country across all divisions. The facility features a 200 meter, six lane, banked track as well as a 110-yard synthetic turf practice field for football.
PLAYERS LOUNGE
Thanks to generous football alumni and donors, the Washburn Football Players Lounge was established in 2020 as a place for team members to gather outside of competition. The lounge includes multiple couches and three TV's to accommodate up to 40 players at one time. The Players Lounge is adjacent the football locker room, located in the Capitol Federal Strength and Conditioning Center.
WE CAN GET YOU THERE
Seven Ichabods have heard their name on NFL Draft Day, including four under Coach Schurig. In 2019, Corey Ballentine was selected in the sixth round by the New York Giants, becoming the highest-selected Ichabod in school history. Kyle Hinton was selected in the seventh round in the 2019 draft. Nine different Ichabods have played in at least one NFL regular season game. In 2013, former Ichabods Cary Williams (Baltimore Ravens) and Michael Wilhoite (San Francisco 49ers) faced off in Super Bowl XLVII. Washburn was the only Division II school in the country to have two players selected in the 2019 and 2020 NFL Draft. Former 6th-round pick Corey Ballentine is currently on the Green Bay Packers, while 7th-round Kyle Hinton is an Atlanta Falcon. Outside of the NFL, J.J. Letcher Jr. signed to play with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
ATHLETIC TRAINING
The Washburn Athletic Training Center is located at the Petro Allied Health Center inside the concourse of Lee Arena. A Hydroworx aquatic therapy pool is located in the Washburn Natatorium, giving student-athletes additional therapy options.
ICHABOD POWER
The Capitol Federal Strength and Conditioning Center is known as one of the best in Division II. Built in 2008, the 12,500 square foot weight room has more than 24 platforms and includes a turf area. The Capitol Federal Strength and Conditioning Center was renovated in 2021 to include in-ground platforms, new flooring, and extended turf areas.
ADIDAS PARTNERSHIP
Adidas is the official apparel provider of the Washburn Ichabods. Ichabod Football sports a number of different combinations throughout the year. In 2019, new Adidas white jerseys were added to compliment the white helmet addition from 2018. Gear extends beyond the playing field to the weight room and travel.
2023 SEASON PREVIEW
Washburn football looks to build on a 7-4 record during the 2022 season - with key players returning. Signal caller Kellen Simoncic returns after finishing 12th in the country in completions per game. The Ichabods 14th ranked passing offense produced 277.5 yards under Simoncic's leadership. Taylor Peters returns in the backfield for his senior season, currently 10th on the all-time rushing chart with 1,871 yards. Coach Schurig enters his 21st season as the sixth-longest tenured football coach in MIAA history.
A GEM IN THE MIDWEST
Washburn University is home to over 7,000 students in the heart of Topeka, Kansas. Founded in 1865, Washburn has over 200 academic programs including a nationally-renowned law school. Campus has drastically changed in the last 20 years, including the addition of the Living Learning Center, Lincoln Hall, and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center while nearly every building on campus has been renovated.
