About Lissa

"A corn-fed Ohio girl, I feel my small town was a great place to grow up and be from! I majored in Journalism at Ohio University and made a last-minute discovery my senior year that I loved photography and in the ensuing years, much preferred capturing a story on film rather than with words.

My work included industrial photography for a machine tool company in Cincinnati, OH, managing a camera shop in Jackson, WY, and eventually owning a portrait studio in Bozeman, MT.

I discovered early on that wandering the world, be it my own backyard or foreign countries, with a camera over my shoulder or up to my eye is such a great excuse to…just wander. Something we all should do more of!

As a student of photography, a teacher of photography, I love the endless creative possibilities photography allows. I encourage everyone to find their creative outlet and create!"

"The truth, rawness, sweetness, a snapshot of life is what street photography can convey, and what better place than Havana, Cuba? I loved wandering the streets of this city where life poured out onto the streets or simply existed in the doorways of old, salt-water deteriorating buildings that were once fabulous examples of luxurious island architecture. My four visits to Havana and several other towns and locales in Cuba between 2012-2018 gave me that very special opportunity. I like showing the images in large 20 x 30-inch prints to give the viewer a better sense of being there.

I unapologetically admit I was one of those young horse-loving girls and have never outgrown the draw to these magnificent creatures. Here I share just some of the many images of horses I’ve captured from the fields near where I have lived or on a pilgrimage-like trip I took to the Wild Horse Range in the Pryor Mountains of Montana. 

I also share four manipulated Polaroid images I had fun making while in France on a barge trip. This is a creative process no longer possible since Polaroid changed their recipe for SX-70 film some years ago. It used to be the photographer had a chance to move the inks around under the print’s mylar surface creating highlights or softening edges before the print became permanent.

Our Pledge

ERA Landmark has always approached hanging artists in our office a little differently - instead of taking a commission from art sales, we ask our artists to donate a small percentage towards a local charity or nonprofit near and dear to their hearts. Lissa has pledged to donate 20% of her art proceeds from any sales to Haven whose mission "is committed to reducing the incidence and minimizing the impact of domestic abuse on families and communities. We provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, ongoing support, referrals, and education." To further help support Lissa's cause, ERA Landmark will be price-matching a donation of up to $250 as well towards the same association.
