To accommodate health/safety protocols, we are offering both in-person and virtual options for in-class and field trip activities.

Program Model:

1) Introduction (per class)

Virtual: 60 minutes with up to 60 student participants. Larger groups can be accommodated over multiple virtual presentations. Coastkeeper provides presentation slides, handouts, and worksheets in advance.

In-class: Presentation and activities completed during a class period. Coastkeeper provides presentation slides, handouts, and worksheets in advance.

2) Field Trip

In-person Model: 40 students attend a field trip from 9AM-12PM. NOTE: Larger groups can be accommodated over multiple field trip days.

Virtual Model: Online Water Quality Lab

Coastkeeper education staff visit Aliso Creek directly before the lesson to collect a water sample along with pictures of current conditions, then puts the water through physical, and chemical tests. Students then analyze potential human impacts on water quality and come up with solutions to common watershed pollution issues. Coastkeeper provides preparatory materials, and lab sheet in advance.

3) Follow-Up Lesson (per class)

45 minutes with video clips of Aliso Creek habitat conditions with a focus on native habitats and their benefits to watershed health, water conservation, water quality, and native wildlife. Students learn how to better become water stewards, and receive additional opportunities to ask questions, as well as giving Coastkeeper the opportunity to receive program feedback.

Do your best to fill out the application in its entirety. If you have any questions, call our office at 714-850-1965 to speak to Michaela or reach her via email at michaela@coastkeeper.org.
