The Switch #2

Out of Love

Rate this book
Laughter and sparks set the stage for a fun romance from New York Times bestselling author Ruth Cardello about a farmer who switches places with his business-savvy twin brother and falls in love with the daughter of his brother’s biggest client.

I just found out I have an identical twin. I’d love the idea if he wasn’t an arrogant, overconfident businessman who is determined to save my farm even though I’m in no danger of losing it. When I agreed to switch lives with him, it was supposed to be for a couple of hours.

I was told to lie low, meet no one, and let him deal with the oil company that was sniffing around my property. I agreed to the switch only because it was the first time since we’d met that my twin had shown interest in my life, and I hoped it would give us a better understanding of each other.

Hours drag into days. I consider our initial agreement void and head to his office. I’m sitting at his desk, mostly minding my own business, when a beautiful woman blusters in, ready for a confrontation with my brother about an email. She’s the daughter of my brother’s largest client.

I only flirt with her to make her smile. What could it hurt to pretend to be my brother just a little longer?

I didn’t expect to uncover a plan to sabotage my brother’s company. I don’t want to believe that the woman I can’t get out of my thoughts and would love to get into my bed has anything to do with what I’ve discovered.

Save the company.

Save the girl.

I have no idea how I’ll do either, but when something is done out of love, it has to work out.

✨I took a chance…I took a shot on this book and well✨

I liked the first half of this well enough. The set-up was fun, there was humor, and I thought it was setting up a steamy second half. I grabbed this from read now on NetGalley because the premise seemed fun and I wanted a little sexy sex. I tried to turn off my critical brain and just go along for the ride. Spoiler alert: I was not successful.

I can’t help but feel like this book was a first draft. The first chapter was all clunky exposition telling you what happened in the previous book. Useful, yes, but it bogged me down. It was all thrown at you at once, rather than revealed naturally throughout the progression of getting to know these characters.

I think part of it had to do with the simple absurdity of the first book’s set up, as well as this one. I mean we have corporate espionage, beans, space stations, farming, beans, the end of world hunger, farm espionage (?), twin switch, beans, attempted murder (x2), hit men, hush jobs, targets on head on the dark web, and did I mention beans?

The book started out as plausible as I would need my contemporary romances to be—yes, I understand it’s fiction but I at least like most things to make sense—but quickly devolved into a batshit crazy experience. By the end, everything was just so nutty that the book said fuck it and had it all wrapped up off page.

But I think the most troubling aspect of this romance was…the romance. The book got so caught up in trying to explain to the reader just what the fuck was going on, that it forgot to give you on-page development of Scott and Monica’s relationship. By the time Scott confessed to Monica that he’s not actually Jesse, she’s legitimately angry and heartbroken. But they barely knew each other before that. There was absolutely no reason in my mind that she should’ve been so upset because she barely knew the man. Yes they were flirting but they knew nothing about each other, no commitments were involved, and it was their first date?

Then once they got over that (all pretty much while not together on the page), she went to his farm had randomly quick sex, and then time jumped to weeks later. In those skipped over weeks, ALL of their relationship development happened: she settled into the farm life, met his friends, and did all of the things a romance book should show you???

Every scene after the one sex scene was so fade to black it hurt my soul. Seriously, this book is not steamy. Their first kiss wasn’t even described it was like: “He leaned into kiss me, the kiss was so passionate, he’s done kissing me now.” I was very confused. The second kiss at least had detail but not much.

Then there were more time jumps, skipping over other critical growth because all we cared about by the end were the fricken BEANS. Legitimately, solving world hunger beans that I truly just don’t even know how to begin to cover here. They didn’t even solve all of the issues with the beans by the end of the book. Un-bean-lievable.

Overall, I wanted to like this book and I did for parts of it, but it really didn’t make sense as a romance, or anything else really. So many things were told not shown or skipped right over and summarized. I was intrigued enough to consider reading book one for the first half of this book, but to be honest, the lack of steam and choppy romance development are a No from me. I didn’t hate any of it, but by the end I didn’t enjoy any of it either.

⭐️⭐️.75/5 🌶🌶/5

P.S. This grown ass adult needed to stop saying “critters”

P.P.S. The cat thing (Squiggles) was super cute and I liked that moment a lot.

Out of Love is the second book in the Switch series, and I did receive the ARC of this, but to be honest I just wasn't in the mood for this one here. I then transferred from the Audio to the ARC back and forth, as I was struggling with the pacing of the story. I am not sure if it wasn't just my mood that I was experiencing or if it was the writing itself. Normally Ruth Cardello pulls me in so quickly into books, so I was surprised that I struggled with this one. It might mean sticking with her audiobooks for this series moving forward.

I did find the set up of the story to be quite intriguing. A farmer that is a bit of a scientist and is posing as a rich mogul haha there is a instant love connection vibe to the romance, the chemistry is solid within the story and there is some solid groveling and character growth. I did enjoy seeing what we see within the heroine. I also liked that the "secret" of the mistaken identity isn't dragged out all the way with the book. There is a strong sense of family within this one. I did enjoy seeing the strong connection of the parental love that is focused in this book. And I really enjoyed seeing the heroine come into her own strength especially in learning to fight for what she wants and seeing the relationship with her father getting more depth to it and get some truths revealed there. I found the romance itself to be quite endearing though. I loved how the heroine didn't force the hero to grovel too long, that she was able to see his side of it and be forgiving of it.

If you are a fan of this author, then this is definitely going to be an enjoyable addition to her works for you!

Scott and Monica had me laughing from the start! Their first meeting was hilarious and filled with angst!

Scott is nothing like his brother but he sure had fun filling his shoes especially when he meant the strong willed Monica!

I love that Ruth creates these fresh feeling stories from the tropes we all love, in this case there’s some steamy enemies to lovers vibes going on. A little work place romance and bam a story that will have you smiling non stop!!

That ending though omg Ruth leaves us hanging and now I can not wait to see what the next book is because it’s going to be a good one and definitely one that will catch us off guard!

I wish I’d known that Out of Love was the second book in The Switch series - Strictly Business being the first - when I read it. Whilst OOL can be read as a standalone, I believe they should be read as a duet. Some of the storyline is concurrent and it definitely would’ve helped to have some of the background from SB as I read OOL. Perhaps combine the two books into one?

Out of Love is pure escapism. Nothing is explored or delved into more than surface level. Everyone is beautiful, a genius and just so happens to be soulmates with someone who, surprise, is the perfect complement to their business(es). The best part of the book was when Scott was impersonating his twin brother Jesse at the office.

I found OOL to be a bit repetitious at times and the conflicts pretty weak, especially considering there were attempted murders. The two main characters, Monica and Scott, fell in love instantaneously without even knowing one another. Out of Love kinda sorta wrapped everything up, but also didn’t. There is a definite setup for a third book in The Switch series.

Overall, if you’re looking for a light, love at first sight, easy to read book with alternating POV that doesn’t get into anything very deeply this book is for you. On the other hand if you’re looking for a thriller that’ll delve into the corporate espionage that Out of Love tries to dip it’s toe into, this is not the book for you.

Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. Out of Love is available on October 4th.

This is a fun book. Scott finds out he has a twin brother named Jesse. Scott agrees to switch identities with Jesse thinking it was for only a couple of hours. As you can imagine there are several things that go wrong. I enjoyed the story and I loved Scott’s farm animals. There is a lot of mystery and lies to uncover.

Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for the chance to read ‘Out of Love’! When I read the blurb I was immediately hooked. The idea is so original and fun and it was well written fortunately. ‘Out of Love’ is however a second book in a series, which I would have liked to know before I started reading. I think one would enjoy this book more if they have read the first book. I didn’t read the first book and I had some questions on certain parts of the book. I could understand everything and the book was fine reading without have read the first book, but to receive the full experience I would absolutely recommend to read the first book (‘Strictly Business’).

It was fun and easy read and I have enjoyed it, but there were some things I couldn’t really get past? The chemistry between the hero and heroine was not really well written. I didn’t feel the attraction and the relationship between the two of them went way to fast, especially to the end. All though the end is pretty sweet and charming, I didn’t really believe it anymore, unfortunately.

The switch is well written, but everything about the work the main characters do? I didn’t understand anything of it. And it was not completely necessary for me to enjoy the book, but the work is a pretty huge part of the story, so I would have enjoyed the story more if I would have understood everything a little better.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t really a book for me. The idea is fun, but the lack of chemistry and good relationship building was a no for me.

The information from the blurb is the only inside scoop you’re going to get from me! It’s the second book in the series, so there are a couple holes. But, there really aren’t, since throughout the book everything gets filled in quite nicely! And I enjoyed that. Monica meets Scott under false pretenses. And while that made me instantly worried, I was worried for the wrong reasons! The biggest issue isn’t that he’s filling his brother’s shoes. No, there are far bigger issues at hand! Out of the gate, I wasn’t a fan of Monica. So for a good chunk of the beginning of the book, that was my biggest issue. But as soon as we got to get to know Monica, and I could understand her better, I liked her more and more. Now there’s no way for me to play favorites between her or Scott. Monica admitted she found Scott attractive, and that was her first mistake. He was smitten with her before that even happened! Poor sweet man was protective of her before she ever wanted anything to do with him. But that didn’t stop him, if anything, it only made him more determined. I thought by 25% in, I had that third act figured out…but then we got it closer to the 50% mark! Which meant there was plenty of room for a whole lot to go wrong! Or, go right. I won’t say which happened. What I will say is aside from Monica’s father, there wasn’t a character in this book that I didn’t enjoy. I will also say that I loved down to earth Monica. I loved that she made the change to better herself. Not just for Scott, but for herself. I loved being a part of that journey from in control to ready to see where life takes her. I struggled a lot at the beginning, but I never hesitated to keep going. I knew Scott would get me to where I wanted to be. And I was right to trust the process, and him. He was exactly what both Monica and I needed.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “It was important that you knew the real me.”
• “Whatever this is we have-it’s important to me.”
• “I want to see you-location doesn’t matter.”
• “I actually sound intelligent when you’re not around. Then you look at me, and all of a sudden I can barely form a sentence.”
• “I’m looking for someone I can simply be myself with-someone who wants to be just as real with me.”
• “Get up to my room, woman. Git.”
• “I just started thinking about how much you mean to me and how I don’t want to lose you.”
• “You are different. In every way that matters to me.”
• “I’m willing to be flexible about location this time, but I’m hoping sometime soon you can deliver the whole fantasy.”
• “We’re like two fucked-up puzzle pieces that somehow fit together.”
• “I love the world when I look at it through your eyes.”
• “I’m all in.”

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and you absolutely need to read them in order. I absolutely love the premise of the books, and am really looking forward to the next one, given the revelations at the very end of this one!!

In the first book we experience what happens to Jesse when he decides that he needs to step in to save his newly discovered twin, Scott from losing his farm to an oil company. It is funny and sweet and ultimately gives us a very different perspective on Scott than we had expected - beans ... all I need to say!

In this installment, we get what happened to Scott when he was dropped into Jesse's home and told to wait until Jesse had sorted everything out... It is a lot of fun seeing it from Scott's side - especially the instructions on animal care, given Jesse (as Scott) should know how to care for his farm.

Just as Jesse couldn't stick to the plan, nor could Scott - as he goes into Jesse's office to see how his brother lives and works. Well from meeting Monica, and duping her, and annoying his newly discovered adopted bug brother, things are a little more complicated than he expected. Most complicated of all are his feelings for Monica, and the dread of coming clean of his deception.

This mirrored Jesse's issue at the farm, and I very much enjoyed cringing on Scott's behalf as he got himself into such a mess - and amused that the beans were once again going to be important!

If you are ready to suspend belief (which is after all the point of reading much fiction) then this is a fun and easy read - enjoy!

Finding out you have a twin and switching places… rule number one, don’t fall in love! But these twins don’t listen. Lol.

I read the excerpt and had to read! What I didn’t know was this was a second book in the series so of course I read book one in two days so I could enjoy this one

I absolutely fell in loved with the characters! Scott is such a sweetheart with a big heart full of love ready to give and Monica is our workaholic who’s scared to love! She thinks she’s talking to Jesse who is Scott’s twin. She’s attracted to him and can’t think when around him but find him so confusing cause he’s not who she thought he was. While Scott can’t get enough of the guarded women that he can see through and wants to break down her walls! .

I throughly enjoyed this book and find it to be a good read. If you enjoy characters switching places, a strong women for our lead, and our farmer hero with a big heart then you won’t be disappointed! But make sure you read book one.

Omg Omg Omg, that ending! All.I know is there has to be a third book!!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Having a twin can be fun, you switch places, share clothes, and know what the other is thinking. But growing up not knowing you have a twin can be shocking. Scott is a farmer and Jesse is a businessman, total opposites.
When Scott needs help with his farm, Jess offers to pretend to be him to keep the vultures away. While Scott gets to spend time living in Jesse's condo and he goes to Jesse's job. Each learns something about the other and it helps them want to learn more.
I loved the first book and this one was even better as we get Scott's POV. There is an aspect of intrigue and suspense to the story that will keep you pulled into it and that is what makes it a great duo. I recommend this author, she has a way of making you fall for the characters and loving the stories in the end.

Scott’s life has evolved into something he doesn’t recognize as not only does he meet Jesse, a twin brother he knew nothing about, but that Jesse believes the best way to save Scott’s family farm is by taking over each other’s lives. Although he is supposed to keep a low profile when Scott ventures to Jesse’s office, he will meet a woman who will change everything.

Monica is the daughter of one of Jesse’s clients and she is a woman on a mission. When she meets Scott, she believes he is Jesse and the sparks fly. She is conflicted about her attraction to Scott but between the secrets he is keeping and the suspicious business activity you know they are in for a bumpy ride.

Brought together by their families the romance between Scott and Monica was complicated. He finds himself trying to protect both Jesse, the family he didn’t know he had, and Monica, the woman who claimed his heart while trying to uncover the truth before it is too late.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

I did not read book 1 in this series.

Scott has figured out that he has a twin. When his twin believes that he can stop the oil company who is pursuing Scott's farm, they decide to switch places. However, when things don't go quite as planned, Scott decides that he's done staying hidden.

Monica is strong and dedicated. She is intelligent and knows that she can go far in life. However, she is scared to not work and not be known for her work.

While this is a cute story, it was somewhat one dimensional. There is no depth to the characters. Also, the main characters seem to be all incredibly similar. Everyone is good looking, smart and dedicated.

So, while this was a quick read that is entertaining, it is very quick because there isn't much to the story.

A great addition to the series!

I finished the first book, and was excited to grab this audio on Kindle Unlimited so I could find out more about Scott's side of the story.

Monica's entire focus in life has been to make her dad proud, even at the expense of her own happiness. I loved watching her get a backbone and fight for what she wants in life.

Scott has a genuine affection for his farm, and an undeniable love for the animals. He switches places with his twin brother, and I greatly appreciate how he kept his distance from Monica until he could be honest with her.

I honestly enjoyed this story even more than the first one, and was pleasantly surprised by the teasing cliffhanger hinting for more in the series!

It was great to be back with Jesse and Scott again and I was really looking forward to seeing more of the farm. The heart of this book was so beautiful. Scott is such a fantastic character, I really wish he was in my life, we all need someone to champion us and the be positive. The way he helped Monica break out of her destructive pattern of behaviour and see things about herself that she’s buried deep was simply beautiful; even how he managed to reach her dad and open his heart was moving.
I’m really fascinated how his research and desire to solve world hunger pans out and I really can’t wait to see Thane meet his twin in the next book.

Enjoying this series

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series! Bella the pig is hilarious & i instantly fell in love with her connection with Monica. Monica and Scott have a sweet love story, if a little light on the details. These books are simple, quick reads that leave you wanting more. I'm looking forward to Thane's book. He's been my fav of the three from the beginning, and I can't wait to read his journey!

I loved how Scott and Monica's story started out and it sets the tone for the rest of the story. I loved their first meet. It was so funny. I have been wondering about Scott's story and how he's going to spin things out with Monica. Despite the storyline, it was pretty easy to read and entertaining enough. Though I wished the characters were given more depth. So that they can give me some feels and emotions. I thought this would be it for this series. But nope, there's more coming and I can't wait for it.

Will she accept she too needs a shoulder to rest on …

If I think I loved the previous book, I just adored this one. I was unable to read it in the best of condition as I was traveling and I hated to have to put it down because of my different stops.

Scott is a dream boyfriend made true, he might have landed in this very situation because he was holding back some important informations, but he is one of those fellow who thinks about others before himself.
He may be be a man who has secrets, he does not sit well with the switch as soon as he realizes Monica is not a passing attraction.
His secrets harm nobody, while the swap could possibly be very damaging if his relationship with Monica were to be going farther than a few interactions, thus him holding back.
I loved how he was in charge. He is not pushy like his twin can be, he is very respective, protective and lets Monica come to him, agreeing with himself to become a fixed figure in her life she must allow it, and accept him

He is a perfect match for her, and while there were at time some unresolved issues, he does not force his presence on her, giving her time and space to proceed the meaning and importance of himself in her life, to let he realize he can be part of hers only if she will grant it. He is attuned to her needs and wants, in harmony with her personality, welcoming her issues and enable her to go forward.
She has trust issues and has come to believe she can do everything herself, needing no one as people always leave. So thanks to Scott, she will see she still can be master of her future with someone walking by her side, someone who believes in her, stands by her and lets her make her choice.
Scott is all that and more, personified patience, an understated genius, the breath of fresh air she did not knew was very much lacking in her life.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series, and you absolutely need to read them in order. I absolutely love the premise of the books, and am really looking forward to the next one, given the revelations at the very end of this one!!

In the first book, we experience what happens to Jesse when he decides that he needs to step in to save his newly discovered twin, Scott, from losing his farm to an oil company. It is funny and sweet and ultimately gives us a very different perspective on Scott than we had expected – beans... all I need to say!

In this installment, we get what happened to Scott when he was dropped into Jesse's home and told to wait until Jesse had sorted everything out... It is a lot of fun seeing it from Scott's side – especially the instructions on animal care, given Jesse (as Scott) should know how to care for his farm.

Just as Jesse couldn't stick to the plan, nor could Scott – as he goes into Jesse's office to see how his brother lives and works. Well from meeting Monica, and duping her, and annoying his newly discovered adopted bug brother, things are a little more complicated than he expected. Most complicated of all are his feelings for Monica, and the dread of coming clean of his deception.

This mirrored Jesse's issue at the farm, and I very much enjoyed cringing on Scott's behalf as he got himself into such a mess – and amused that the beans were once again going to be important!

If you are ready to suspend belief (which is, after all, the point of reading much fiction), then this is a fun and easy read – enjoy!

Having a twin can be fun, you switch places, share clothes, and know what the other is thinking. But growing up not knowing you have a twin can be shocking. Scott is a farmer and Jesse is a businessman, total opposites.

When Scott needs help with his farm, Jesse offers to pretend to be him to keep the vultures away. While Scott gets to spend time living in Jesse's condo and he goes to Jesse's job. Each learns something about the other and it helps them want to learn more.

I loved the first book and this one was even better as we get Scott's point of view. There is an aspect of intrigue and suspense to the story that will keep you pulled into it and that is what makes it a great duo. I recommend this author, she has a way of making you fall for the characters and loving the stories in the end.

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆
M/F Romance

I did not read book one in this series.

Scott has figured out that he has a twin. When his twin believes that he can stop the oil company that is pursuing Scott's farm, they decide to switch places.

Everyone is good looking, smart, and dedicated.

So, while this was a quick read that is entertaining, it is very quick because there isn't much to the story.

Quick Summary: Twinning gone wild!

My Review: Out of Love by Ruth Cardello was all kinds of fun to read. It was twinning gone wild, to be sure. It was a fast-paced, slow burn romance that offered a fresh take on the concept of family.

About the Characters: They were gems! Every cast member played his or her part well.

- M and S had such powerful chemistry. They were both solid leads who realized that trusting the heart was all about faith and courage. I loved how they each got to experience family in such profound ways. I also liked how they each were strong, successful, and accomplished as professionals.

- Aunt B, D, & D were extremely protective of M. I really appreciated how they showed their hearts for her. Also, their friendship showed how peace can be made with the past.

- J & C were certainly an opposites attract/chance encounter couple. Seeing how they both rallied around and accepted M into the fold was beautiful. Also, reading how they supported M and S's relationship, once they were fully clued in, was all heart goals. (I cannot wait to read their story.)

- T was the triplet in the family. I really liked him as a support character. He was loyal, driven, protective, and considerate. There is something about him that makes him captivating. (And that ending!!! This is when things got interesting for him. His story is beckoning me.)

- Bella stole the show with her cuteness.

- Mr. B was not the surly sourpuss I thought he was. He was a hard man. He needed the ending with his research lead in order to connect with his daughter. (The "I love you" did me in.)

- Remy was a complicated character. I felt sympathetic towards him. What he allegedly did was wrong, but it sounds like he was acting out of desperation. (Did he really do the deed or was he framed? Was he covering for someone? Was he being blackmailed? S couldn't have been that wrong about the guy, could he?)

- LJ is puzzling. I want to know his intentions. (The verdict is still out on this guy. He appears to want what is best, but I wonder. I'm thinking he's connected to the twins past somehow.)

The Conflict: Where do I begin? Both brothers targeted...that was genius. I was not expecting the story to go in that direction.

The Unexpected: I was blown away by the intrigue associated with this story. It existed on every front. (Well played, Ms. Cardello.)

The Farm seems to be a magical place. Everyone that goes there walks away changed.

Favorite Quote: "Hold-my-purse-while-I-fan-my-face-and-wipe-drool-from-my-chin level of good looking." (Lol. Still laughing at this one. This was a most memorable line.)

Favorite Scenes:

- Aunt B & D's life-is-too-short moment

- The first meeting between M and S

- B acting like man's best friend

- The mention of mom's drawer (bahahaha 😂)

- The projectile situation

- The unplanned reveal before the executive assistant

- The kitty connection

My Final Say: The overwhelming story theme that kept circling around was, ultimately, about family. With its crazy, mixed up, topsy turvy messiness, family is what or where we choose for it to be. If attraction, romance, and true love occur along the way, then that's just extra frosting.

Rating: 3.5/5
Recommend: Yes
Audience: A

Unlike Scott’s discovery, this a slow burn

Second book of The Switch series and I’m now struggling to decide which twin brother I like best.

In the first book, Strictly Business, the lead character goes on a huge journey of self discovery. Jesse goes from being an arrogant, often pompous, business focused man to a more open, approachable and likeable character once he steps in his twin brothers shoes. When life on Scott’s farm introduces him not only to another, quieter way of life but also the love of his life - it quite literally changes everything for him.

Jesse’s long lost twin, Scott Millville however is a very different kettle of fish. Unlike his separated at birth brother, he’s lived the life of a humble farmer. Raised by two loving and doting parents he’s well rounded, grounded and loving. In contrast to his closed-off brother, he’s not afraid to show his softer side and let people know that he cares. Which when he steps into Jesse’s very different world becomes more of an issue than he could have imagined. Especially when he unintentionally meets a woman that sets his heart on fire.

The trouble is, Monica Bellerwood is the daughter of his brothers biggest and most influential client. One wrong move could jeopardise everything Jesse had built. But his heart yearns for the brilliant woman that he can’t get out of his head.

It’s not going to be easy to win her over though. For one… she thinks he is Jesse… and another - she’s just like Jesse in that she’s all work and no play. Can he possibly break down her resistance? Will she let herself go? And will everything come grinding to a halt when she knows the truth behind his real identity?

There’s lot of sexual tension and obvious chemistry between these two but often convincing someone that they can be loved is harder than believing that you can make it happen.

In book one, I think we were so invested in Jesse’s personal journey that you saw Scott as immature and a little ungrateful. However, this book turns that on its head once you understand what is happening to Scott whilst Jesse is trying to save his farm. It all becomes clear that Scott is in a world of trouble, and he doesn’t even know just how much his discovery is to blame for it.

Now that I’ve read this book Scott is just the most adorable alpha male without even realising that he is one… and I’ve fallen in love with his animal rescuing, simple life loving ways. And he sounds every inch of perfection both physically and emotionally.

If there’s one slight criticism of this book it’s that it’s a very slow burn. There’s that very obvious sexual tension, but don’t expect any proper action between our two lovebirds until 80% in. Yep, 80% build up… 20% action and then wrap up. Don’t get me wrong, I like this book a lot and when they do finally get it together, it’s as hot as I knew it would be… but it just took forever to get there.

Can’t wait to see if Thane gets his story. Certainly sounds that way from the epilogue. And it also sounds like the pitter-patter of tiny feet too! Awesome!

This delightful romance hit every note!

Scott just found out he has a twin brother - they were adopted separately - and that high-powered business leader brother, Jesse, is determined to save Scott's farm from a greedy oil developer but he insists on trading places with Scott so he can be there on the farm. This is the setup of the first book in this series, and this second book pretty much follows a concurrent timeline, though there isn't a lot of repeated information.

While posing as Jesse, a bored Scott runs into the daughter of Jesse's biggest client, and he's immediately smitten with the beautiful Monica, who, of course, has no idea that he's not Jesse. The sparks fly, but Monica has her own demons to conquer and puts up quite a stalwart resistance to Scott's attentions. Their interactions are few and far between at first, but Scott's inquisitive nature and relaxed charm allowed him to get beneath her heavily protected layers so he could see a side of her that few people ever see.

There's a solid mystery surrounding her company's project and Jesse's company's contribution, one that no one thinks Scott can figure out, but there are surprising layers to Scott that everyone constantly underestimates. Still, the corporate espionage is a minor distraction from the heartwarming romance that is proving quite irresistible.

I loved George's input and his attitude, and I thought drunk Scott was absolutely hilarious. Monica's dad is probably the most overprotective father I've ever read about, but the author still manages to give his character complexity and depth so we understand and even, to some extent, sympathize with him.

I loved the growing relationship between the brothers, and I adored how every relationship Scott has is grounded in the love and security he has with his parents. They are the true heroes of this story. I thoroughly enjoyed Scott and Monica's HEA, especially how the author lays bare their hearts, hopes, and dreams. This level of vulnerability on the page is a rare treat. The only part that was a bit off-putting was the setup for the next book - a highly improbable premise, but I've learned not to underestimate this author so I'm looking forward to seeing how she pulls it off.

Ruth Cardello is a one of my top ten favorite authors, and this book is a shining example of why that is. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Adopted at birth, twins, Jesse Rehoboth and Scott Millville, did not know about each other until their brother, Thane, found out that the two were twins, raised separately. Jesse being a take no prisoners business man wanted to protect Scott when a big corporation wanted to buy Scott’s farm. Jesse pretended to be Scott to meet with the people who wanted to buy Scott’s farm. In the meantime Scott went to Jesse’s to stay for a few hours while Jesse did his thing at the farm. Scott was given instructions to not see anyone or doing anything but hang around the apartment. Of course Scott didn’t do as he was told. He went to the office and poked around in Jesse’s life.

Jesse was working with Bellerwood Corporation in building a space station. While at Jesse’s office, Scott had an altercation with Walt Bellerwood’s daughter, Monica, who is the project manager for the space station project. Immediately there was an attraction and sparks flew. Scott tries to stay away from Monica because he hates lying about who he is. In the meantime he has found some damaging information about the project that can cause a lot of problems for many people involved.

Out of Love is Book 2 in this series about twin brothers exchanging places to protect each other. Sometimes when reading about twins switching lives it is hard to keep up with things as they can get confusing. This author has done a terrific job in telling this story and making the plot flow so the reader goes along seamlessly. I loved Scott’s character as he really didn’t like being in the position he found himself in but he did what he could to make things right. It was fun to see Jesse and Crystal’s interaction as he doesn’t seem like the big bad alpha around her. There are very sweet conversations between the different family members that can elicit a few tears if the reader isn’t careful. Once again Ms. Cardello has brought us a fun romance with great characters and a wonderful story. I’m definitely looking forward to Thane’s happy ever after.

This is book two in The Switch Series and it is Scott and Monica's story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Scott realised that he had a twin brother because they had been separated at birth they decided to do a switch so that Jesse could help Scott with his farm as he was being harassed to sell it by a company and they wouldn't take no for a answer but there was no way that he would ever well the place where he grew up and loved so Jesse went to the farm and Scott went to stay at Jesse place and was told not to go out but Scott got bored and went to see what Jesse company was like and that was when he met Monica who thought that he was Jesse causing huge complications for them all. Monica worked hard for her father and helped him with his projects but when she got a e-mail that she didn't like the tone for she decided to take the bull by the horns to confront who she thought was Jesse but what she didn't like or expect was her reaction to him and how he made her feel because this type of thing didn't happen to her so she left as quick as she could so that she could get back to normal. Scott and Monica's attraction and chemistry between them was instant and strong but with all the secret's surroundings them they couldn't do anything about it but what will happen when the truth comes out. There are twists and turns along with danger, betrayal, secret's, trust issue's, family, hope, forgiveness and love . I absolutely loved this book and it had you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages wondering what would happen next and I couldn't put it down as the characters and storyline pulled you in right from the start and it kept my attention throughout as I wanted to see what the outcome would be for them all and I can't wait to read Thane's story next.

I Voluntarily Reviewed a Copy of This Book.

Jesse recently discovered Scott Millwood, his biological twin after seeing a picture of him in an online article. Being adopted by different couples, neither realized they had a twin. After talking for a while, Scott shared he had concerns about Steadman Oil, a company trying to buy his ranch so Jesse decided to ‘switch’ places with him for a few hours to check it out. The hours turned into days and weeks and eventually Scott was tired of hanging out doing nothing so he dressed as Jesse and went to work…
Walt Bellerwood was building a residential space station and hired Jesse Rehoboth’s company to design it’s life support system. Since this was his daughter and lead researcher Monica’s project, she was ticked off that Jesse Rehoboth told her that the information she provided him was incorrect and not to contact her again until she confirmed her information. After verifying her information, Monica goes directly to Jesse’s office for a confrontation. When she gets there, she meets Scott, Jesse’s twin and immediately gets derailed. He avoids Monica until Jesse is able to answer her questions. With nothing to do, Scott starts digging into Jesse’s computer files and uncovers sabotage in Monica’s company which she can’t believe. When he tells her who he really is and about the sabotage, needless to say, she doesn’t take it too well.
This is the second book of the switch series. You discover more about Jesse and Crystal from Strictly Business. Each book is stand-alone with no cliffhangers but plan to check out Strictly Business to read about their story as well. A great book for romance lovers.

Where to begin. I did enjoy this book. Mostly. I did find some of it unbelievable, but I tried to not over think it and must enjoy the read. I do kind of wish I had know this was the second book in the series. I would have likely read Jessie’s story first before moving on to Scott’s. That being said, I did feel the book was ok as a stand alone. The only thing I didn’t really understand was what the circumstances were that led to Jessie and Scott finding out about each other. This story starts after Jessie and Scott have already met and switched places. While pretending to be Jessie, Scott meets Monica. Perhaps it is because I’ve never personally experienced love at first sight, but I felt that they fell for each other unbelievably fast. Their entire relationship was just so fast! I also don’t quite believe how Scott was able to teach himself so much highly scientific stuff online. People pay lots of good money for an education like he managed to learn on his own (Monica included!). I did enjoy the characters though. There was some humour throughout the book that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I loved that pig (Bella ❤️. Do some types of pigs actually get that big??). I might hunt down the first book and read Jessie’s story, though I might not since I already know how it all ends. It does look like they set us up for a third book (Thane also has a mysterious unknown twin?? Will we finally solve all the problems around these magical world saving beans?) though and I will most likely read that one.

Thank you NetGalley, Montlake and Ruth Cardello for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Out of Love is the second in a companion book romance series that follows a set of place switching twins trying to help each others' businesses and ending up falling in love.

Unfortunately, I did not realize this was a second in a series book until I accidentally stumbled on that fact once I had completed about 60% of the book. While I guess technically this could be read as a stand alone I really did not care for it as a stand alone. For the first 60% of the book I had a very strong feeling that I was missing half of the story. Turns out, I kind of was. This book follows Scott and the first book follows his twin brother Jesse. The timeline of Scott's book is the same as the timeline for Jesse's book. So when you were reading Scott's story you kept getting hints of things happening in Jesse's story but it was very much just a mention in passing. But because they're twins who switched places the stories are very interconnected so you got A LOT of mentions of Jesse. I hated that. I wanted the full picture of what was happening with Jesse. Personally I would have preferred if the book contained both brothers' perspectives or if the first book was about Jesse falling in love then make Scott's story of falling in love at a completely different point in time so that I don't feel like I'm missing something.

Aside from that I also found myself getting really bored. I did not feel any chemistry between Scott and Monica. I found a lot of the lines cheesy, cliche and redundant. It was very much love at first sight and a lot of telling not showing. Sadly this one was just not for me; but thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
