Air passenger traffic from Oceania to top 5 destinations in Asia during 3Q2015

 
With a marginal year-on-year increase of 2.8 percent, Indonesia remained the top destination in Asia for travellers from Oceania during 3Q2015 with air passenger numbers reaching 354,915. Singapore and Malaysia, however, witnessed decreased arrivals numbers from this influential source region. China PRC and Japan enjoyed strong growth of eight percent and seven percent respectively with mainland China replacing Singapore as the second largest destination in Asia in this period.

PATA India Chapter conquers Europe
 
 
Focusing on the latest marketing campaign to promote the Himalayas, the PATA India Chapter and the Ministry of Tourism organised a European roadshow to connect 18 Indian incoming operators from Assam, Kerala, Karnataka and many other States with tour operators from several European markets. After Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna and Rome, the roadshow event ended at the hotel Melià Milano in Itay with a workshop of meetings between buyers and sellers, and a presentation of the many tourist attractions of the country overseen by Gangadhar Chilka, Director for Italy of India Tourism. Read More.

Tourism authorities learn how to attract new flights and increase visitors with ASM and PATA
 
 
UK-based consultancy ASM has developed a training programme with PATA to show tourism authorities how to work with airlines to gain new flights for their destinations.

‘Route Development for Destinations and Tourism’ will be held in Bangkok on 2-3 February. It is the first course of its kind to focus on air service development (the creation of new flights or ‘air routes’) for tourism authorities due to the changing nature of the aviation industry. Many airlines look beyond airports for support and will also engage with tourism authorities when considering a new service.

Lanith: "Mark Community” greets elephants to Luang Prabang UNESCO fête


“The Mark Community” led Luang Prabang’s public and private sector tourism stakeholders in sponsoring an Elephant Baci Ceremony during the city’s 20th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The event welcomed a 20-strong elephant caravan, which spent 53 days trekking the 630-km route from Sayabouly Province’s Elephant Conservation Center to Luang Prabang.

Airports of Thailand opens new Domestic Terminal at Don Mueang International Airport
 

The Airports of Thailand (AOT) has reopened Terminal 2 at the Don Mueang International Airport for domestic flights. The facility has a capacity to handle 11.5 million passengers per year and is equipped with 70 counters, including 10 counters for passengers with disabilities. Read More.

The good news is they will continue pushing the industry, from hostels to 5-star luxury resorts, in this direction. Energy, water, waste, chemical consumption or support for local communities are now issues that hotels take into consideration when adopting a sustainability approach, whether they do so for ethical, financial, or branding reasons.  Read More.
