Project Next Generation 2021-2022: Dream, Design, Do!
Thank you for registering for one of our PNG programs for the 2021-2022 school year. Project Next Generation is an educational technology initiative of Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White. It was established to help educate at-risk students and bridge the digital divide. By providing technology training for students, PNG empowers students to succeed academically and eventually as independent, contributing members of society.

The goal of this year’s program: Dream, Design, Do! is to engage students in grades 4-12 in various STEAM programs to increase their knowledge, skill, and confidence in these areas. Students are asked to contribute to a journal that will be put together at the end of the grant cycle to chronicle our journey. Contributions will consist of drawings, arts and crafts, photography, and photos and comments from the programs attended. While contribution to this journal is not a requirement to participate, students are urged to submit at least one piece per program attended. In the spring, students will be invited to assemble these contributions into the journal and learn how to bind them into a book. Each participant will receive two copies of the final product.

In order to provide a great experience for everyone, students and parents/caregivers are asked to observe the following guidelines. This form only needs to be completed once per student for the 2020-2021 year regardless of how many PNG programs are attended.

Attend programs you have registered for. If you cannot attend, please call the library to cancel. Persons who register and do not attend without canceling two or more times may be moved to the waiting list for future programs.
Be respectful to the mentors and fellow students.
Participants who cause intentional disturbances during programs will be given one warning. If a second disturbance occurs, the participant may be removed from the remainder of the program. If this happens in two or more programs, the student may be moved to the waitlist for future programs.
Adults and siblings are welcome to attend these programs, but supplies can only be provided to registered students in grades 4-12.
Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). Pre- and Post-program surveys may be available at some programs. These surveys are important in continuing to receive the PNG grant and improve future program offerings. Please fill these out when they are available.
If programs are offered virtually, equipment and/or materials will be sent home. Equipment would need to be checked out to a valid library card and returned in good, complete condition to avoid fines.
Students are asked to contribute to a journal for programs attended. This can be content created through the program, photographs taken during the program, or comments about the program provided on survey forms. The journals will be made available to all participants, the Library Board, and the State Library.
