Substitute Kyle Joseph's second-half goal helped Cheltenham Town come from behind to defeat 10-man Shrewsbury Town at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

Steve Cotterill's Shrewsbury had taken an early lead through Daniel Udoh, but Conor Thomas levelled from the penalty spot after Dan Crowley's shot was handled on the line by Elliott Bennett, who was sent off in the 24th minute.

And Joseph won in the 66th minute, following up from close range after the outstanding Crowley's low shot hit the left upright.

Cotterill was given a warm welcome back by the home fans ahead of kick-off, having led the club to three promotions between 1997 and 2002.

Steve Cotterill's thoughts

"Yeah of course it is (special), I had a long time here, five-and-a-half years as a manager, 20-odd years growing up, going to school up the road and living up the road.

"Today was obviously a big enough day for me, but really it was all about the game once it started.

"And the people would know that, as well, they know that here, that I would want us to do well today."
