On April 7th, 2021, 4th-generation shrimper, activist, and author Diane Wilson began a hunger strike at the waterfront of Lavaca Bay - to demand that the Biden Administration stop the dredging of the mercury-contaminated Matagorda Ship Channel and ban crude oil exports. The proposed dredging of the Matagorda Ship Channel - to enable oil company Max Midstream to export crude oil fracked from the Eagle Ford Shale & Permian Basin - would unearth potentially catastrophic mercury contamination from a Superfund site in Lavaca Bay, devastating fisheries that local communities are working to restore and revitalize. The project would sacrifice both community and climate to create profit for a few oil companies.
Join us at 9am CT on Sunday, April 25th for an urgent action to #StopTheDredging in Lavaca Bay and #StopOilExports on the Gulf Coast. If you are able to join Saturday afternoon or evening to camp, attend an orientation, share dinner, and build community, we encourage all to do so!
