Taking Time Out Can Impart Valuable Lessons

Taking Time Out Can Impart Valuable Lessons

Have you ever gotten what you wished for and found out it's not what you really want?

I was on vacation for two weeks visiting family on the East Coast. It was the first vacation in a few years due to Covid and it was wonderful. As it happened, our family planned a local "staycation" in San Diego at South Mission Beach for four days shortly after my returning from the East Coast. So, off I went; the first couple of days were great - grand-kids visited, weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful. However, not being used to leisure time, by day three, I was getting a bit antsy. After taking a long daily walk, doing some overeating, and sitting on the beach, I was ready for some brain stimulation! By day four I was going stir-crazy! At the end of that long day, I couldn't wait to get back to work. I've been accused of being a workaholic, not knowing how to relax, not knowing how to sit down and read a good book, etc. So be it!

Lessons learned are: I'm not ready to retire. I thoroughly enjoy what I do, my work friends, and clients, and now I realize how fortunate I am to be able to incorporate work and play into my lifestyle. As I approach the next decade of my life , I'm developing an "Attitude of Gratitude" - finally!

So, to my readers who are considering retiring, I urge you to take a long vacation and then decide!
