Ten thousand azaleas in a spacious park

Tsutsujigaoka Park in Tatebayashi is dedicated to azaleas. The park holds over 10,000 azaleas of over 50 varieties spread over 110,000 square meters, including a trellised flower tunnel and an azalea that has grown to over 5 meters tall. Some of the plants are very old, with one estimated to be over 800 years old.

The scenery is particularly striking from mid-April to early May when the azaleas erupt in colorful blooms. This period is called the Azalea Festival, and various special events are held.
