The current funding structure misaligns projects, finance and targeted results for beneficiaries.Aid is based around projects. The value chain is projects and projects create silos. Money is given to one organisation for a project. This leads to the organisation trying to do everything inhouse in order to keep the money. This leads to ‘mission creep’ instead of collaboration, which means lower competencies. Integration of local knowledge must include youth as stakeholder to ensure sustainable solutions
Many populations are very young, not including youth proportionately is unrepresentative of the issue. Young people are often responsible for collecting water for domestic use, meaning they have up to date knowledge of needs and existing services. Young people are more predisposed to innovation, or new thinking, to help drive progress. Youth networks are an untapped resource for accelerating action on regional and local levels.

Recent advances in science and technology, if implemented, have the potential to dramatically change the health of communities, provide resilience to climate change, and inform wise decision-making and management of water resources. Examples: new field tests that give immediate results for drinking water contamination can save thousands of lives. Emerging satellite and drone technology can assess local impacts of climate change, and the availability of sustainable water resources for agriculture
