 Pre-K Science For May 4-8

Monday:  Skittles Rainbow Science

Supplies Needed:

Instructions

  1. Divide your skittles in groups of 5-10 of the same color into each cup
  2. Add your room temp water to each cup and watch as the sugary colors begin to dissolve right away. The sugar will float to the top while the color of the skittles sink to the bottom of the cups
  3. Grab your stirrer and swirl it in your cups and watch how the skittles are significantly smaller
  4. Now have fun and taste test each cup and see what they taste like.

Tuesday:  Unstoppable Bubbles

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Super simple and sweet: Mix all of the ingredients together and let sit for a couple of hours. Blow your bubbles out with your straw or bubble wand and have endless amounts of fun

Wednesday:  Raised Salt Painting

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Squeeze your glue design (could be your name or whatever you choose) onto your cardstock or choice mentioned above
  2. Sprinkle with salt until the glue is thoroughly covered. **tip to let excess salt fall away easier.
  3. Dip your paintbrush into liquid watercolor paint then gently touch to the salt covered glue lines. Watch as the paint “magically” travels in both directions
  4. Lastly let it dry completely and enjoy your work of art.

Thursday: Dancing Worms

Supplies needed:

Instructions:

  1. Using your scissors, cut the gummy worms into 4 strips each. The skinnier the better for this experiment.
  2. Mix your baking soda with warm water into your clear jar and stir it well. Drop your strips of gummy worms into this solution and let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Fill your other glass with vinegar. Using your fork get the gummy worms from the other cup and add it to your cup of vinegar.
  4. Watch your worms come to life while they dance and wiggle around. If there is not much movement add another teaspoon of baking soda to the jar. Enjoy

Extra Choice Friday: Air Pressure Fun

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Simply place the two sponges, one on top of the other, inside the ziploc baggy.
  2. Place the drinking straw between the two sponges so that one end of the straw is inside the bag and the other end is sitting outside the bag.
  3. Seal up the bag. Once done also seal the bag with tape.
  4. Blow into the straw to inflate the bag
  5. Lastly, place your small item on a flat surface and place the bag behind them so that the straw is positioned to blow the item. Press down hard on the sponges and watch as your item rolls away. Enjoy
