Jim Parsons from the The Big Bang Theory wins best actor in a comedy series. USA TODAY's Bill Keveney spotted him after his win as Parsons walked into the hotel on the red carpet announcing "Oh my God, what do I do? I feel so uninformed about this!"

"I am shocked. It was one of those moments right before they announced the winner that my brain went 'You are not getting this right now' and then I was stunned. I am still stunned."

About why his character Sheldon appeals to viewers "I am guessing it is because he is a very different guy. He is in the minority of intelligence and behavior. He comes from such an honest good place that he gets away with saying such outlandish things."

On the show moving to Thursday this fall, Parsons said, "Thursdays are a big night, I was weaned on that as a child, but we've had a very very loyal audience, but time will tell. I think they'll be happy to watch it wherever it is."

When asked what TV nerds influenced him, Parsons said, "There's a little nerd in a lot of classic sitcom characters. Isn't Ted Baxter and Alex P. Keaton? It's that ...the spirit of that is what I feel like I try to shoot for."

On his early career, Parsons noted that "in 1st grade I had the part of a bird, and I sang a song. ...I don't know that I was good, but I obviously caught a bug."
