  9. Leveraging one’s skills and abilities to give back to society

EDOCODE’s story began when it was spun off from its parent more than 10 years ago. As the point mall business continued to grow steadily, the question of “what type of business or service do we want to create next?” became our focal point. Representative Director Tamura thought, “it would be exciting to not only see that our product is being actively used, but how it greatly improve users’ lives”. While EDOCODE’s point mall business isn’t necessarily flashy, it boasts a wide user base and is very much like an unsung hero, in that it helps its users slowly but surely save money. We want to work with like-minded professionals who similarly value “leveraging one’s skills and abilities to give back”, all the while further growing “EDOCODE’s capabilities” so that we can give back even more to society. 10. Assuming there is always a possibility of being mistaken In

order to develop a good product, we believe it is important to keep an open mind and to engage in constructive discussions with team members. When having discussions, it is only natural for one to feel afraid to speak up for fear of saying something incorrect. However, all humans make mistakes. This is true regardless of one’s rank or position, and we want all of our employees to understand this. We also do our best to keep in mind that “assuming that xyx is ‘correct’” is the single largest enemy when it comes to product development. 11. Understanding the users before building products Non-profit businesses cannot grow,

but businesses without users cannot exist. While this may sound obvious, humans tend to make decisions that place themselves or their clients before the users. In order to prevent this, EDOCODE places great emphasis on user research, and endeavors to keep the wants and needs of the users central to all product development activities. Our KPIs do not include profit, but instead focus on “How much do we return to the user?”. We believe a good product is a product that “users use”. 12. Engaging in teamwork and achieving things that cannot be done

alone We believe teamwork is important to "realize things that cannot be done alone". This is different from getting along with one another “for the sake of the team”, or asking your colleagues to behave the same as yourself. In so far as a team is comprised of a group of professionals, it is a given that each member is expected to deliver and perform. In addition, we evaluate whether or not it can realize the things that the individual cannot do alone. Therefore, it is important that every member can trust each other. We believe that supporting these values is the opportunity for members to deepen their understanding and interact with each other while enjoying their work. TO CREATE USEFUL PRODUCTS FOR PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD Employees have numerous opportunities to engage with one another, such as at our weekly retrospectives (lookbacks), lunch shuffles and more. 13 Who’s in~!? 13. Basing our conversations and thinking on logic and underlying principles

Meaningful discussion is imperative if one is to create a meaningful product. However, having meaningful discussions isn’t always easy… At EDOCODE, we endeavor to follow the points below having discussions with one another. ・Refrain from making baseless and irrational statements (i.e., do not make emotionally-charged arguments) ・Revisit the preceding discussion where so required We also try to avoid making decisions based on “something someone said”. For example, assume everyone at a brainstorming workshop used the same size and color post-it notes and pens to express their ideas and opinions.
