volcano boarding at cerro negro

Cerro Negro is a young, active volcano outside of the colonial city of León. The volcano only reaches 500 meters in height, so it’s climbable for any level of hiker. The slopes of Cerro Negro lack vegetation and are covered in volcanic ash. After an hour of somewhat strenuous hiking, guests are rewarded with an otherworldly view. For the daring, once at the top, you can “volcano board” down the steep slopes of Cerro Negro.

Hike Consiguina

Hike volcano Conseguina

Conseguina towers over the surrounding landscape and is one of the most picturesque volcanos in Central America. The now dormant volcano was once the site of Nicaragua’s most violent volcanic eruption. When the volcano blew its top in 1850, it created the large crater lake and islands in the neighboring Bay of Fonesca. From the top of Conseguina, hikers can spot three different countries. Two hikes are available, one that is relatively easy (half day), and one that is more strenuous (full day).

One of our favorite activities to do with guests is to explore the mangrove estuary that neighbors the town.
