Labour and Co-operative campaigners, Mike Hill and Yvonne Guariento, and Labour and Co-operative councillor, Cllr David Meller, are heading a campaign to establish a Post Office BankHub for Cheadle and the surrounding area to allow people who struggle to travel and prefer face-to-face banking to have banking facilities.
BankHubs are a shared banking space on the high street, with dedicated rooms where customers can see community bankers from their own bank. The community bankers work on rotation, with a different banking provider available on each day of the week.
LINK, the organisation overseeing the UK's access to cash and banking services, is leading the BankHub allocation process and has recently taken community requests for more BankHubs, with hubs to open in Surrey, South East London, Prestatyn and Bedfordshire.
Cllr David Meller recently spoke to LINK's Head of Financial Inclusion and the potential is there for something to be done in Cheadle, particularly after many of you recently contacted them.
As part of an agreement between the banks and building societies, LINK identifies whether a community requires further cash services. Also, any community without branches can contact LINK directly and ask to be supported.
However, this isn't enough - which is where you come in.
What can you do?
After speaking to LINK, Cllr David Meller came away with optimism that something could be done to improve the dearth of banking services in Cheadle, Cheadle Heath and Cheadle Hulme.
That's why we have set up this petition, which we present directly to LINK and their Head of Financial Inclusion.
If we work together, we could get something done and improve access to banking services locally, as well as further supporting Cheadle Village. Please sign the petition below.
