Tourism CHITCHAT

September 2023

News & Updates

In this edition of Tourism CHITCHAT: News & Updates, we celebrate our award-winning visitor businesses and welcome new ones. Our area's first business hotel, Hampton Inn & Suites - Pittsboro, is making significant progress, and we look forward to hosting visitors for overnight trips and extended stays, including golf getaways during the 2024 U.S. Open Golf® Championship, hosted by our neighbors at The Home of American Golf.

We've launched our niche collaborative website, Chatham Sports Alliance, to drive economic impact through the positive power of sports. Discover our natural areas and recreation facilities, find events, and plan your next visit with our resource hub for event organizers, athletes, and spectators. Our organization works with many teammates, including Chatham County Parks & Recreation, the expert for our publicly managed facilities.

Great Trails State Day is Sun, Oct 3. Celebrate in our area and explore a bevy of nature-based assets: hundreds of miles of hiking and bicycling trails, NC Birding Trail sites, horseback riding, and paddling adventures on our rivers and lakes (self-guided or with regional outfitters).

Triangle Land Conservancy recently purchased 247 acres of forest, hillsides, streams, and wetlands near Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. The area will be protected forever and may become a public nature preserve. In the meantime, we have White Pines Nature Preserve for guests to enjoy now. Read more from the Raleigh News & Observer.

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR) announced a new policy directing departments and local governments to use native plants. The press release also encouraged others - homeowners, businesses, and government agencies - to grow native plant gardens. Shop for yours at Rachel's Native Plants and For Garden's Sake.
