Welcome to another Official Dojo Event! Here you will find a competition with fabulous prizes made possible by our new partners at Artisul. The goal? Simple. There will be FIVE rounds. In each of these rounds, there will be a specific challenge that you must animate within a time limit. The best executed challenge will be awarded points from the Inhouse Judges. Winning a round gives you little prizes, become the ultimate winner for more prizes!

As the rounds go by, please check this post for updates, as the challenges will be revealed as they go.

RULES

  • You may use any character or any medium of animation you want. Stick figures, fullbody, sprites, etc. are all acceptable for this competition. You may use any program you need.
  • You MUST follow the requirements of the challenge you are given. If you fail to follow the requirements, your part for that round will be invalid.
  • Each round has a limit on how long the animation can be. You must perform the challenge within that time limit. Remember quality over quantity!
  • No plagiarism. That means no tracing or stealing other animations for your entry.
  • Do not reveal your completed part until after the due date.
  • You may skip rounds if you need. All that matters is your total points at the end to win the grand prizes.
  • Turn in your completed part as a PM (private message) to @Amy.

JUDGING

For each round, you will have to impress the Inhouse staff on the challenge that one of them specifically set up for you. This competition will run on a Points System. They will rank all of the submissions, where only the top six will gain Points. Judging will take 1 week after the round has finished before the next round begins.

1st Place gains 10 Points.
2nd Place gains 9 Points.
3rd Place gains 8 Points.
4th Place gains 7 Points.
5th Place gains 6 Points.
6th Place gains 5 Points.
7th Place gains 4 Points.
8th Place gains 3 Points.
9th Place gains 2 Points.
10h Place gains 1 Point.

When there is an exemplary animation that deserves more points, up to a further 6 Bonus Points may be given.

THE INHOUSE CHALLENGES

ROUND ONE (by Hyun) - THE JANITOR CHALLENGE

"To start off the competition, we’re going to test not only your animation ability, but your creativity as well. The challenge will be to animate the most creative choreographed fight scene using just a mop and a bucket. There may be as many characters in your animation as you want, but you must not use any other props besides the mop and bucket. We’re judging mostly on how creative and resourceful you can be with these props in a well choreographed fight. Good luck!" - Hyun

THE CHALLENGE RULES:
  • Animate a fight scene using only one mop and one bucket. No other props or weapons allowed!
  • You can use the water in the bucket as part of your animation.
  • Be as creative as you can with these two props within your fight choreography.
  • Animation should be 15 seconds minimum, 30 seconds max. (timer starts when fighting starts)
  • Turn in your completed part as a PM (private message) to @Amy.

ROUND TWO (by Jomm) - THE B-BALL CHALLENGE

"What’s up homies, in this challenge you’ll test your skills out on the court. The challenge will be to animate a game of street ball (Basketball) where one player will have to score against the other. You will be judged based on your flashiness, style points, and of course animation skill (bm disrespect optional)." - Jomm

THE CHALLENGE RULES:
  • Official Basketball rules do not apply! You can do whatever you want as long as one player outplays another and gets the ball inside of the basketball hoop.
  • At least ONE outplay must occur during the animation. Meaning one player has to trick the other player while they’re playing on the court.
  • Multiple outplays can be done, but only one player can score.
  • A score has to be made by the end of the animation, doesn’t matter which player. Meaning the ball has to be put in the hoop by someone in some way or another by the end of the animation.
  • Multiple figures can be animated or one vs one is fine too.
  • Anything goes, this includes fighting or just crushing them with your mad B-ball skills.
  • BE STYLISH. Add some personal flare to it.
  • Animation should be 15 seconds minimum, 30 seconds max.
  • Turn in your completed part as a PM (private message) to @Amy.

Your animation can be about anything as long as it has these 4 effects listed below. Although this is an effects focused challenge, other animation and overall appeal are still important. FINAL ROUND (by Terkoiz) - Breaking Beyond Challenge

"This is it! The FINAL ROUND! From cleaning up some fluid movements with the Janitor Challenge, to beating the buzzer with the B-Ball Challenge, to sizzling up a saucy story with Chef Bob’s Struggle, to creating something flashy with the Effects Challenge. This challenge will compound of every single aspect you have went through leading up to this very moment.

Now the only thing between you and victory… is an endless wall. You’ve reached your absolute limit on where you can go. The only way forward is beyond. You have THREE HITS to BREAK through the WALL. This is your final challenge. Show me your strength!

This challenge is not necessarily a technical one nor a difficult concept to grasp. This is a demonstration of how well you can court your viewer throughout your animation. POWER is the key here so use every trick that you know to portray emphasizing that raw aspect. However, be careful to not overwhelm the viewer for those attempts at visualizing power may be subject to complete misinterpretation." - Terkoiz

THE CHALLENGE RULES:
  • Animate ONE person breaking through a wall
  • Must show only THREE clear hits to the wall (any kind of “hit” in any combination).
  • The final 3rd hit must break through the wall
  • Will be judged heavily on the IMPACT and DELIVERY of each single hit (make me feel each hit).
  • Show IMPACT by using a variety of effects and exerted movements
  • Show DELIVERY by using dynamic angles and strong compositions
  • Animation should be 15 seconds minimum, 30 seconds max.
  • Turn in your completed part as a PM (private message) to @Amy.
