NING STANDARD 224!

** PANDAMONIUM '22 LIVES UP TO ITS NAME ! **

** DEAN MCMULLEN FLOATS ON ON DEBUT SINGLE! **

Alright there panda pine needle noodlers – happy new yearnings and welcome to the first Ning Standard of 2022. Last time around we gave you, the dearest of reader, a whole heap of live news fun in the seasonal Ningle Bells Standard. By the time the newsletter hit the nation’s interwebbing screens half the live shows had been m m m my corona’d into oblivion, and as we type we are once again fighting the good gigging fight with our Pandamonium ’22 event.

To wit, we have a load of musicians lined up to play five gigs at The Victoria over the next week, and some of those musicians have already replaced other musicians who have caught covid, or are worried about catching covid, which is why the lovely poster below, which is now out of date, doesn’t equate to our own Pandamonium ’22 listings, which aren’t out of date. Well, not right now anyway.

In other words, check the usual sites before you leave the house for any of the shows below, and God and LFTs willing we shall meet again at The Victoria bar drinking pints of ‘Milk’.

ENJOYABLE LISTENS + DEAN MCMULLEN + HOLOCENE

A night of bendy alt.rock antics. Shrimp Eyes have had to pull out but we still have two newbie fierce panda signings in the lithe shape of extravagant boompopster Enjoyable Listens and the bittersweet murmurings of Muncie Girls' guitarist Dean McMullen. Opening up we have the grunge-jazz twistings of Holocene.

THE INSTITUTES + tbc + HEKA

A night of geographical visitations to The Victoria: The Institutes send themselves out of Coventry with their rollingly epic '90s alt.rock anthems. HEKA come from Bristol and mine the mid-'80s musings when the bright-eyed popness of new romanticism started to fracture and darken.

AVERAGE LIFE COMPLAINTS + JOHNSON'S JOHNSON + WARNING SIGNAL

A night of snappy attitudes and sassy aptitude: sarcastic South London post-punkstas ALC were recently described as being "a very, very angry Close Lobsters", which'll do for us. Johnson's Johnson bring their biting, Tory-baiting electropunk joy. Brighton trio Eva, Evie and Milo send out the warning signals with their bright-eyed pop frenzy.

DEAN MCMULLEN 'CLOUDS HOLD UP THE SUN' | DIGITAL PRE-SAVE

Did we mention Dean McMullen? Indeed we hecking well did. He opens up Pandamonium 22 with his labelmate Enjoyable Listens, because his labelmate is also signed to fierce panda. On one level, Dean McMullen is a new singer-songwriter who is about to release his debut single, 'Clouds Hold Up The Sun' on January 14th 2022. On a second level, Dean McMullen is part of oft-loved touring troopers Muncie Girls and knows his way around a backline for the odd household name. Either way, ‘Clouds Hold Up The Sun’ gently resonates with a childlike sweetness wrapped in lush musical sentiments, lurking somewhere between Elliot Smith and Mercury Rev and Death Cab For Cutie and...oh, you know, that kind of sweet loveliness. It's out Friday week, get it pre-saved so it drops into y.our digital library automatically here

Pints of 'Milk' willing, we'll be back with a Ning Standard Live Special featuring Desperate Journalist, Scrounge, China Bears, Moon Panda and so many more before even we know it.

Until then, TTFN
