You’ve always loved food.

Even as a kid, food was your thing.

You hid your favorite candy in your room so it was always there when you needed it. You couldn't wait for Girl Scout Cookie season.  I mean, Thin Mints...

Food was your best friend.  It checked every box.  It was there when no one else was, and it made you feel better.  It was your way of handling every feeling.

Because let's face it:  no one ever taught you how to deal with your feelings.  In fact, you were called "Too Sensitive" just for having them.

But somewhere along the way, this friendship started feeling out of control. Food had become your answer to everything. Had a bad day? Ice cream. Angry at your coworkers? Potato chips. Something to celebrate? Chocolate. And lots of it.

You felt completely out of control.

Ashamed.

Desperate.

Unhappy with your body.

So you did the only thing you could think to do. You dieted.

That's the best way to gain control over food, right?  So over the years, you tried them all.  Weight Watchers (oops, so sorry, WW), Keto, Paleo.  You counted more calories than there are grains of sand, and you diligently logged every meal.  And you felt in control of food--sometimes.  But it never lasted. You couldn't stick with it (spoiler alert--almost no one can).  You always turned to food again, and those all-too-familiar out-of-control feelings were back (along with a few more pounds and a side of body hatred).

You’ve accomplished almost every goal you’ve ever set.  You're a therapist who's devoting your life to helping your clients heal.  But your emotional eating…that's the one thing you just can’t get a handle on.  And that makes you feel ashamed.

Especially because you're a therapist.  You're supposed to know how to heal this yourself, right?  (No--you're not!)

Thankfully, being the hope merchant that you are, you’re not ready to give up yet. You know there is an answer.  And it's not dieting.

It's Internal Family Systems (IFS).  You've done your own work using IFS, and you've seen how much it's helped your clients.  You've just never applied it to your emotional eating.

Until now.  You're ready to get to know your "Eating System" (that's what I call all of the parts that lead you to food, restrict food, and have feelings about your body) and work toward Self-Led Eating.  You're ready to stop trying to control your parts and instead get to know and unburden.

You're ready to approach your parts with curiosity, calmness, and compassion in order to finally feel food and body freedom!

Food and Body Freedom is a four-month experiential consultation group for therapists that guides you on how to make peace with food and with your body once and for all.

FOOD AND BODY FREEDOM IS:

  • A live group program with ongoing daily support
  • An informative program that utilizes the evidence-based approaches of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Intuitive Eating to help you transform your relationship with food and your body
  • A program that helps you heal your relationship with your body and accept it as it is
  • A safe space for therapists to talk about their own food and body struggles in order to understand how they're impacting their work with clients

FOOD AND BODY FREEDOM IS NOT:

  • A weight loss program
  • A diet plan
  • A quick fix
  • A short-term program that focuses on only one aspect of emotional eating, leaving you lost about how to deal with everything else
  • A program that encourages the “good/bad,” “all-or-nothing,” fat-shaming diet mentality
  • A program that makes weight loss promises or guarantees that it cannot keep (no program can guarantee you weight loss)

When you invest in Food and Body Freedom for Therapists you will:

1.  Learn skills. These skills will help you to understand why you turn to food when you do; address your emotions without food; treat yourself with kindness and compassion; and move away from diet culture.

2.  Develop Trust. You will learn how to notice your body’s hunger and fullness cues as well as its needs and cravings and respond to them in a way that serves you well. You will come to know that you can trust yourself to know what’s best for you when it comes to food and overall health.

3.  Find Peace. You will finally experience peace from the anxiety and desperation that has led you to diets and unhealthy programs that merely tried to control you and how you eat. You won’t need these any more.

4.  Develop Food Freedom.  You will develop a true sense of freedom with food.  Gone are the days of "forbidden foods" that you fear having in the house.  You will learn to make peace with food so that no foods are off-limits, and you can truly enjoy a free, flexible relationship with food.

5.  Experience Support. You've had support while dieting in the past. But that was only while you were dieting. Food and Body Freedom provides weekly (and daily, if needed) support from myself and a small group of womxn just like you who understand exactly what you’re going through.

6.  Know Your Worth. You will know for a fact that your emotional eating and your size does not define you.  You will learn to approach yourself and your body with kindness and respect and will treat yourself with the compassion you deserve.

Here's How it Works:

You’ll be moving through this four-month course with a small, hand-selected group of womxn therapists and practitioners.  Each week, you’ll get a brand-new lesson relating to emotional eating, body respect, self-compassion, etc.  The lessons are designed to build upon one another, with overall themes present throughout the entirety of the course.

The model of Internal Family Systems (IFS) is the foundation of this group.  We will be using the lens of IFS to explore our parts' relationships to food and our bodies.

Each week, you’ll be participating in an online call with myself and your group to discuss the previous lesson and the insights that you gained.  You will also be participating in IFS meditations, journaling, and group parts work during these calls.

In addition to the group, you will also have an opportunity for daily support and guidance via Voxer, as needed.  This will allow you to deepen the work that you're doing within the group and between calls.

Month Three

In month three, we'll be taking a closer look at how we feel about our bodies, as we cannot change our eating until we change how we view our bodies.  We'll be working toward developing body kindness and respect and will be improving our ability to connect with our bodies in order to notice our hunger and fullness cues.

Month Four

In month four, you'll learn the Intuitive Eating principles that work well with IFS in order to become a Self-Led Eater. You'll be putting the two approaches together so that you may approach food with calm awareness.   You will begin the process of making peace with food and will feel more calm and relaxed with food.

Who am I to Help You With This?

I hear you.

I've been working with womxn who struggle with emotional eating for over 20 years. And I gotta tell you, I've made a million mistakes. I'm not at all proud to say that I used to help womxn try to lose weight.  I completely bought into the "let's try to control your eating with such-and-such plan."  It breaks my heart to know that I gave my clients the same fatphobic, "weight = health," bullshit message that they were hearing everywhere else. And it never worked.  Because, of course, diets don't work long-term.  You cannot control your emotional eating with a diet.  In fact, control shouldn't even be the goal--freedom and flexibility with food should.

So now, my work is all about helping you to get curious about all of the complexities of emotional eating, enjoy a flexible relationship with food, and learn how to sit with your emotions and manage them in a healthy, positive way.  I'm also passionate about respecting and valuing your body, leaning into your uniqueness as a person, and taking up space

I'm not here to bully you into my way of thinking, like diet culture does.  I'm here to help you heal your relationship with food, your body, and yourself.

Join my army--we're pretty awesome. And we have cake...

Thoughts from Past Participants...

"This space has to me been a sacred place to not just learn about but interact with of my eating system and how connected it is to our early attachment. There's a therapist part of me who laughs at not having made the connections between food and attachment before but a kind ,softer part that is so thankful to have not just learned but experienced the knowledge of how complex and messy our eating systems can be. That knowledge coupled with experience is what has given my parts room to soften, heal and find joy in food again."

"I now have lots more space to be able to make different decisions about bingeing behaviors. I am also more skilled at stopping eating when I am full - no more cleaning my plate or feeling like I can't waste food. While it needs my diligence, it doesn't have to be a great burden, I learned its in the moments taken each day to reflect and connect with parts involved. I have a lot more peace within my food relationship/eating/body image system."

"Through attending the Food and Body Freedom Group, I am much more aware of the parts of me that relate to food - especially the part that overeats and what she protects. I am practicing more mindfulness while eating and am more aware of body cues when I'm hungry/full. I can access more "body neutrality" and have less judgement towards my body."

"I have inner peace. And I feel like I'll be able to work with my parts when things get louder again. I feel more prepared...I was able to talk to my binge eating part in the moment. I have an understanding of the future work that needs to be done...It was amazing."

Frequently Asked Questions...

When does the group program start? The next round of Food and Body Freedom will start in early 2024.  Fill out your application to grab your spot and get the process going!  During the four-month program, you will receive weekly lessons, participate in weekly online calls, and receive daily to weekly support from myself and your group members.

Do I need to be trained in IFS in order to join? The group is heavily based in IFS.  While you do not need to have completed a formal level 1 training, previous training and/or work with an IFS therapist is strongly recommended.

How will the group be delivered?  We will be using Zoom for our online calls and an app called Voxer for daily check-ins.  Voxer is a free talk/text app that you will download onto your phone.

Why is this not a weight loss program? While I absolutely understand wanting to lose weight, intentional weight loss doesn’t work. And focusing on weight loss takes away from the far more important tasks of learning about why you use food the way you do and healing your relationship with your body.

How is this different from therapy?  Food and Body Freedom is NOT a therapy program. While we will be learning about all aspects of eating and body image, we will NOT be doing the in-depth process work of therapy.

Can I participate in Food and Body Freedom if I have an Eating Disorder?  The group is not appropriate for anyone with a diagnosable eating disorder, unless you are already working with a team of providers. If you are unclear if this applies to you, I would be happy to speak with you about it further.
