Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2016: Fighting (Sept. 20-27)

Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2016: Fighting (Sept. 20-27)

Welcome to the fourth annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament, hosted here in Pokémon General! The goal of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament (or FPT), is to determine the most popular Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity. This will be a 10-week set of polls culminating in mid-November, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types of past and present generations against each other to determine a winner. After we know the results of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and will go down into the record books as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon of 2016!

If you are new to the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, or would just like a refresher on the rules/process of the event, please take a look at the FAQ posted below:

    Spoiler:

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls are open until September 27th, so get voting!

My favorite Fight type pokemon is Breloom. Breloom is an absolutley sneaky and almost unpredictable pokemon. It's got a fantastic move pool with access to one of the most powerful status moves. It can play defensively, offensively, and can even set up a battlefield for just about any pokemon. Plus it has an all around fantastic typing. It is definitely my favorite mushroom.

    Honorable Mentions:

Primeape: Most of my love for Pimeape is from nostalgia, it was with me through the majority of my very first play through of Red version when I was young. I don't use it much anymore but I still have a soft spot for it. Plus it's a pig monkey!

Tyrogue Family: The entire Tyrogue family is so awesome. I love it's unique form of evolution, the specializations among the three different evolutions, their designs are amazing, and their move pools are pretty nice. I definitely like Hitmonchan a lot and also ran a competitive team with one back in HG/SS named Jackie.

Heracross: This pokemon is by far one of the most hardcore and intimidating single evolution bug pokemon I have ever battled with and against. I always get nervous when I have to battle against a Heracross, but obviously, when I'm using one it packs an incredible punch that just is amazing. Plus it's based on a really cool beetle as well.

Lucario: I would say Lucario is my favorite fragile cannon pokemon. It's definitely tricky play with and you have to protect it really well, but when set up just right it can sweep amazingly and it's pretty awesome to see. I also really enjoy playing Lucario in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Toxicroak: I had an absolute blast playing with Toxicroak in my first play through of Diamond. It's similar to Lucario in that you have set it up before you can really run it, but once Toxicroak has a clear safe path, it just totally mows other pokemon down. Impressive type combination might I add, considering Psychic types have taken more to the side lines, Toxicroak definitely shines much more than it did before sixth generation.

Scrafty: I talked about Scrafty in the Dark type thread, I don't think I need to repeat.

Mienshao: I enjoy Mienshao's design, move pool, and I think it's regenerator ability fits well with it as well. I played with it in my playthrough of White version and I really enjoy it. It's very fast, hits very hard and it's move pool gives it a lot of incredibly useful options such as access to U-Turn which allows it to be incredibly elusive, covers it's main weakness, and has incredible utility with regenerator.

Hawlucha: Great typing, great moves, great stats, awesome design. I haven't had much experience with it, but I do think it's an all around cool pokemon.

Hawlucha - Such a great deisgn, nice typing combination and it can learn some pretty hard hitting moves! Not only that but Hawlucha is one of my favourites from Kalos, right behind Klefki and Aegislash.

Croagunk line - The reason why I chose Croagunk & Toxicroak is mainly down to the design. I love the concept of a poison dart frog Pokemon, but they really did it justice with the designs for both Croagunk and Toxicroak.

I went with the Tyrogue line, Heracross, the Makuhita line, the Croagunk line, and Gallade. I'm not a massive fan of Fighting-types tbh. Heracross is probably my favourite. I loved it in the anime and it has a cool design and was quite powerful back in the day (not sure about anymore hahaha). I used Hariyama in my OR playthrough, and Toxicroak and Gallade on my Platinum team, and I liked using them all. They're all powerful and have diverse movepools, and have pretty cool and different designs. And the Tyrogue line is just a classic line that I love.

    I voted for:

Croagunk line - I love Croagunk and Toxicroak, their designs are really cool and I love the fact that they're based off a poison dart frog. I just finished a playthrough of Platinum using one and it was a great part of my team.

Mienfoo line - Mienfoo and its evolution have a surprisingly good moveset and they're both pretty fast too so they're definitely good Pokemon to use. Plus Mienshao is beautiful.

This is probably the hardest poll for me. I love basically every single fighting type so narrowing it down is pretty hard but I managed to do it:

    Primeape - my original favorite
The Hitmons - Not really a fan of Tyrogue (basically the only Fighting type I don't like) but I absolutely love the Hitmons and the different battling tactics of each one!
Heracross - How can I not love it?
Infernape - Just my favorite starter line and the coolest starter line in my opinion
Hawlucha - My current favorite fighting type, its dual typing is awesome, its moveset is awesome and its competitive viability is awesome. In case you couldn't tell, Hawlucha is pretty awesome ;)

This one was a pretty easy choice. Infernape is my all-time favorite starter so I had to go with that.

Went for the Mankey line and the Croagunk line - two of my big favourites ♥ Also wanted to pick Infernape but he just slipped under the line.

I do like a fair bit of Fighting-types (Hawlucha, Mienshao, Toxicroak, the Muskadeers) but Scrafty is the only one who stood out for me, hence my sole vote on it. Fun to use in battles and it has a creative and unique design. I used to hate it at first but now it's been and still is my favourite Pokémon for 5 years and still counting.

I voted for Breloom and Meditite line for my fave strong 3rd Gen picks. Monferno/Infernape for my fave Sinnoh starter, with the popular Riolu line and Gallade for the 4th Gen representation. Pignite/Emboar made my vote for 5th Gen, and although somehow I didn't register a vote for the Scraggy line in the Dark-type poll, I did get a vote for it here.

Oh, and I also have Hawlucha, Pangoro and Mienfoo line for some other honorable mentions.

I voted for Heracross, Breloom and Hawlucha!

Heracross has always been one of my favourite Pokemon. I've never been too fond of using bug types on my team but I had a lot of fun using Heracross in HG/SS. I love how it looks so friendly and innocent but then it can still pack an absolute punch to other Pokemon. I've also always liked its typing - bug/fighting is something I wasn't sure how Gamefreak would pull off but they really did well with Heracross.

Breloom has always been my staple fighting type whenever I play R/S/E. It's a very reliable Pokemon to use and I've always enjoyed using it. Also it kind of looks like a dinosaur with a mushroom head which is adorable.

I've never used Hawlucha but like someone else has already mentioned, it has such a great design. I really like its colour scheme. Plus Fighting/Flying is such an interesting type combo! I'll definitely have to give Hawlucha a shot sometime.

I voted for Poliwrath and Heracross, with Poliwrath being my favourite of the two. Sorry, bug boss.

Hera, hera, HERACROSS! Big and shiny, he's the bug boss! Love it, need it, HERACROSS!

I remember having a plush of a Poliwhirl when I was really young. I loved the simplicity of it; it looked so friendly, even though it also looked intimidating. It quickly became one of my (now all-time) favourite Pokémon. Imagine my excitement when I found out it had a third-stage evolution, and it was this beast.

Loved the fact that it became a Fighting-type, too. Growing up a wrestling fan, I loved how my Poliwrath could out-wrestle the opposition, hahaha.

This was a close round of voting, with a number of Pokemon just being a few votes away from taking the victory. However, when the dust settled, Riolu and Lucario picked up the victory, earning their 3rd entry into the Favorite Pokemon Tournament finale in 4 years! Finishing second place was Heracross, with Hawlucha rounding out the podium, just 3 votes behind the winners.

If you haven't yet, be sure to take a look at the Dark type poll results, and then keep your eyes out for the next set of polls, which should be up very soon!
