They call me a football god. A legend in the making. After winning back-to-back championships with Baltimore, I shocked the world when I decided to take my talents elsewhere. But not just anywhere. Back to the town I despised growing up. Because that's where she is. The girl who stole my heart when we were kids. She's all grown up and more beautiful than ever, living her best life as a popular sports reporter. I hate her for what she did to me.
She didn't just break my heart. She crushed it beneath her sneakered foot and burned it to ashes. She wrecked me. But I'm still not over her. I can have any woman I want with a crook of my finger. I want her. Only her. Call me crazy. Call me obsessed. Both would apply. I blew up my whole world for her. Because I want her back in my life. Back in my bed. And yeah, I want a little revenge . . .

I’m all for second chance romances. Especially if there’s a good reason for the initial break up. I just didn’t buy this one. And I know I’m being over critical. They were very young and she was scared and dumb. So I guess. But...ugh.

Honestly, this book wasn’t bad. I loved Reyes and Emerson the book just dragged for me. It could have easily been 100 pages less and it would have been better. There was so much extra unnecessary drama. The spiteful, stalking, vindictive social media clout chasing ex-girlfriend could have had less time. Why did she have so much time!? And the things I wanted more of, like Emerson’s dad and Reyes’s uncle’s drama because I know there was more drama between them never came up. It just disappeared. Nooooooo!! What happened between those men? I have theories. I think they were partners or part of a salacious mob like group of powerful disgusting men. What were they hiding?? The juiciest things never got uncovered. Will they come up in the next book? I can’t read 500 more pages of this. I can’t. But also I kind of want to. Something is wrong with me. I know.

I love second chance romances, so when I saw the blurb for this I immediately wanted it, and while the first half was really strong, the rest of the book just felt anticlimactic to me.

So Emerson and Reyes were the best of friends and had an amazing, passionate love, and were destined to be together forever.. until a nefarious plan by someone close to them reads them apart for the next eight years, leaving them both broken and alone.

These two definitely had some intense chemistry, and even though I didn't truly connect with them as much as I would have liked to, you could still feel the love between them. I was just annoyed with the back and forth with Reyes wanting his revenge and then wanting her close, and then having sex with her just to shut down on her again. I get that she broke his heart, but the whole revenge plot just didn't do it for me. And once they were finally reunited, I started to lose interest.

This wasn't a bad book by any means, and I do like this authors writing style, but overall it just wasn't for me.

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**

'Get over You' is the first book of the 'dare Me ' series by Skylar Hunter. Told in dual perspectives, this book was one hell of a second chance sports Romance!

I am a sucker for Second chance Romances, the angst they contain and every painful word is devoured by me eagerly! This book was the same. This is the story of Reyes an Emerson. They were childhood sweethearts who separated 8 years ago. Now their paths have crossed again and it's the time for reunion and old hurts to resurface again!

This book was full of twists and turns, something that we rarely find in contemporary romance! The author introduced us to so many amazing side characters and I ended up loving them all! The storyline was perfect and I loved the chemistry between the main characters!

Definite recommendation to all the contemporary romance lovers , I am personally addicted to this series and can't wait for more!

This was my first time reading a story from this author and it won’t be my last. Reyes and Emerson childhood best friends turn high school sweethearts to then enemies. Fast forward eight years later and they had unfinished business. Reyes was back and he had revenge on the mind because he wanted answers as to why she broke his heart. Only difference now they were both successful. He was the top NFL quarterback in the country and she was a well respected sports journalist. The minute he returned he wasted no time but it also proved that they still loved each other. They were many angsty moments as well as secrets being revealed mixed with family drama from both of them and other obstacles but it was clear that these two were not going to let anyone interfere anymore. It was a very good read with characters that I can see having their own stories. Their epilogue was perfect for them.

This is the first book I have read by Ms Hunter and I have to say I’m struggling to understand why she hasn’t crossed my radar before now because Get Over You blew me away.
This is book one in the new Dare Me series and if the rest are as good as this story this will certainly be a hit series that will appeal to a wide range of audiences.
This is Reyes and Emerson’s story and boy do they have a tale to tell, it’s a second chance romance with plenty of trails and tribulations, it will keep you on the edge of seat as you join this couple journey and get to see first hand the twists and turns and obstacles they have to overcome.
Can a betrayal ever be forgiven....well I guess you need to read the book to find that out.
This book ticked all my boxes, it felt real and I connected with the characters, I loved the story, I loved the chemistry and I was left wanting more. Great read that has me excited for the rest of this series.

“ I only want her “ - Reyes
I’m all for second chance romances, especially old best friends that got separated apart from each other for a reason neither of them are able to explain. Between the hero and the heroine they both haven’t gotten over each other after 8 years. He thinks she broke him, she thinks he hates her for no reason. The only reason this isn’t a five star is basically because a lot of second chance romances are predictable and this one was, it would be nice to have a second chance romance with either the hero or the heroine did do something significant to separate them from each other not someone else.

This was a scorching hot second chance romance. Reyes and Emerson have off-the-charts chemistry. This is a fast-paced book that flows smoothly from start to finish. Hunter does a fabulous job of detailing Reyes and Emerson’s second chance at love, but there are also several plot twists that add intrigue and drama to keep the reader engaged. I have to admit I had just finished the last book in an exceptionally good series and had a book hangover when I started to read this book.. I wasn’t sure that another book could grab my attention. Little did I know that this book would pull me in and keep me enthralled. Hunter produced a well written descriptive book that took the reader from New Mexico, to North Carolina, and Catalonia. Reyes and Emerson were a great couple, you could feel their love and passion for each other in every page. There were many supporting characters that enhanced the story, many you will love, some I hope may get their own stories, and others you will absolutely love to hate. Oh I forgot to mention that this is also a sports romance, so if you love second chance, sports romances that have just as much intrigue as they do sports, steam, and love, then this may be the book for you. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Reyes is a professional football player who is at the top of his game when he leaves the successful team he is playing for to return and play for his hometown team which will bring him closer to his family and the only girl he has ever loved.

It’s been years since Emerson and Reyes’s relationship ended in heartbreak but when they reunite they soon find out that neither time not distance has diminished their feelings for each other. She is now the reporter covering the team so avoiding each other is not an option but will this be their second chance or is the pain of the past too much to overcome?

This is an emotional story about two people who have always belonged together but first they must deal with the misconceptions of the past.

This one had it all!
NFL player
Sports reporter
Second chances
Revenge
High school sweethearts
And so so so steamy
This was a super fun and ridiculously steamy book.

What I really liked about this one was that this book didn’t just stop after the reconciliation, we got to see the the after and the obstacles they had to go through as a couple.

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
I really loved this book. It’s a second chance sports romance with the main characters bring Reyes an NFL Quarterback and Emerson a NFL sports reporter. They were childhood best friends who fell in love. Their lives crossed paths again 8 years after splitting up when Reyes changes his NFL team to the place where his paternal family live and just so happens to be where Emerson also lives and works. The story follows their path of possible reunion. I loved how Skylar made her heroine a super strong woman working in a predominantly mans world and how she had to fight for what she worked for. Reyes, the new hero in town, joining a team who were not top of their game and everyone wondering why. The story was full of emotion, with steamy sex, twists and turns and at times full of angst. Not once did I get right what I thought was about happen, making the story unpredictable but brilliant. Even though Skylar introduced a lot of characters in to the book they all had a place and meaning within the plot. A thoroughly enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend.

This is my first time reading anything by Skylar Hunter, and it for sure won’t be my last. In this second chance story we meet Reyes and Emerson. From childhood these two always had each other’s back until they didn’t. Fast forward 8 years and they are both celebrities in their own fields but something was always missing.

Skylar Hunter has a way of taking a story we’ve all read before and make is fresh and new. She keeps you guessing and draws you in. You will meet a bunch of characters but they each have their place and meaning.

This story has everything it’s supposed to including plenty of blushworthy scenes!!

I CONSUMED this book!

Reyes was just PERFECT! Like the WHOLE PACKAGE!and a total SWOON! He’s a NFL Quarterback (2super bowl rings under his belt), Philanthropist and so much more.

Emerson is a kickass character, she’s a top NFL reporter which is predominantly male environment but that doesn’t stop her from being top dog 💪🏼

R&E knew each other since childhood and were sweethearts, unfortunately the unexpected happen and they lost a number of years.

Now that they are in close proximity the sparks are crackling and their attraction can’t be ignored. We learn so much about them and those around them. I never what to expect, and it was just a marvellous read!

Holy Reyes and Emerson. This book was amazing. Chemistry was off the charts, there was drama and lots of twists and turns. Also if your a sucker for the second change romance then this on didn’t disappoint. Reyes and Emerson have history and it turns out the betrayal they felt was because of other people. Once they reconnect their story takes off. Great read! Didn’t disappoint!!!

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

On TikTok, there’s this trend where people criticize each other using this phrase “it’s the…” and the person goes on to mention one thing that bothers them. For this review on Skylar Hunter’s Get Over You, I want to change that phrasing to all the ways that this book is worthy of a spot on your Kindle AND an afternoon read. So here goes…

It’s the…hero for me with Hunter’s Get Over You. Reyes is the type of hero you can’t help but love. As the blurb asserts, Reyes is back in his paternal family’s home town, bent on connecting with his childhood best friend and paramour. On the surface, seemingly he’s there to find out why she broke off their relationship when they were younger and exact some type of revenge in the process. However, you learn quickly that his feelings run deep and his intention might not match his subconscious need for her. Even more, his character, while very alpha, isn’t really cruel. As Hunter’s story goes, you, in fact, realize that he is the dreamiest of heroes. There isn’t really anything that this NFL playing, crooning, chefing, morally resoluting hero can do. By the story’s end, you will lament the fact that Reyes isn’t real…because he’s the man you would love to love.

It’s the…heroine for me too. At first sight, Emerson is incredibly self-possessed. I love that Hunter crafts this woman in the midst of a predominately male world. And she’s incredibly successful in it. While almost all of the men in her life fail her in some way or minimize her, Emerson stands in her strength, and it’s inspiring. She pushes back on anyone who seeks to diminish her with the exception of Reyes. For the first third of the story, the contradictions of Reyes and Emerson’s connection is probably the hardest part of reading Get Over You. As Reyes seeks to wound Emerson, she, however, takes it willingly. Knowing Emerson’s background, this makes reading their initial experiences heart-wrenching. There was a part of me that wanted her to punish Reyes for his cruelty towards her even though I understood his pain. Yet, Emerson bears the weight, and you recognize that the last half of Get Over You is a gift for her sacrifice at the beginning.

It’s the…story for me. I think what I found interesting about Hunter’s story is the ease in which Reyes and Emerson reconcile. What this does is allows Hunter to craft more story for her hero and heroine as a couple. Oftentimes, romance writers reconcile the couple very late in the story, and you receive an epilogue which never feels like it’s enough. With Get Over You, Hunter treats you to the early challenges of Reyes and Emerson’s reconciled couplehood, and it’s oddly endearing. I will say that there are parts of the story (overly wrought descriptions of rooms) that could have been revised down. However, this story isn’t just about Reyes and Emerson; there is an additional story about the problems of power here too. What happens when power becomes one’s focus? How low must someone go to maintain that power? Even more, how does power destroy the meaningful relationships around you? These are the questions of Hunter’s story, and they feel important.

And ultimately, it’s the…author for me. Skylar Hunter is a revelation. I’ll be honest. I enjoy reading new authors to me, especially one’s who are beginning in the business of publishing their work. Oftentimes, though, I’ve been disappointed because they require more resources to revise their stories than they often have. To be honest, that isn’t Skylar Hunter. I’m imagining another book in her Dare Me series, one that includes Reyes’s best friend, Greer, and maybe, Susana, his cousin. And you can be sure that I will definitely be reading that story because Skylar Hunter’s Get Over You found itself a new fan in me.

Completely touching and utterly heartwarming , this is a wonderful book from a new up-and-coming author!

I loved Reyes and Emerson's story.
Unlike many other second chance novels, I truly loved how effortlessly they found their way back to each other and how quickly the plan for revenge flew out the window in favor of love.

But the best part, and the truly unique one was that the book didn't end at them getting back together, or with a proposal or wedding. We actually got to see the trials and tribulations after the big romantic gesture, where real life gets in the way and you have to work at keeping the love.

A truly great book, and I can't wait for Skylar's next one. I already have my suspicions about who the couple will be...

5 stars and a championship ring.

This is a promising new author to me and she writes well.. but yeah, sadly this one disappointed me.. I was kind of expecting that I'm in for a thrilling, passionate and deep emotional ride with the main characters.. instead I was met by lots of descriptive boring chapters.. well in my opinion.. I was also kind of engaged with the first three chapters, kind of looking forward for more hot banters ahead or heated word exchanges, with the heroine standing her ground, then it went flat.. with all the swooning of a "supposedly" tough kick ass sports journalist heroine like a teenager, over the muscled gorgeous hero.. a book that's supposed to be a dual POV, but dominated mostly by heroine's POV.. considering I'm led to believe in the blurb, with the hero talking, that this is mostly more about him.. his big comeback and how he'd plan to weave himself again into the heroine's life, I had thought it would take a li'l bit longer for them to "hit the bed" since a lot of resentment and unresolved conflict are between them.. hence, it's just fitting that I've expected more of his POV.

Yes I like my heroines tough and with sass.. and I thought in the first few, the heroine would be this, considering she's depicted as one.. a tough career woman in a man's world.. instead I read a woman who's always drooling and melting over the hero, loss for words, acting no different than a groupie herself.. always weakened by just the sight of the hero, then loses pride and self respect when her hormones take over.. I hate heroines like this one, which sadly, I find in most romance books.. and how many times do I have to read the hero is so hot and gorgeous?

And because of sudden switches between want and hate of the hero in the first half, and his lack of POV, frustratingly I didn't connect when they finally talked about the circumstances surrounding their breakup.. and when they finally confessed their real feelings, it has disappointingly left me feeling dissatisfied and empty.

More descriptive chapters follow after, and lots of blah blah that I've finally lost interest.. even if it does pick up a little in the last few chapters, sadly, I've long lost my connection with the book and it didn't deliver much anymore to me nor register.. maybe because of the details overload, oh my.. the over description of events, activities, places, houses and people bored me to death that I had to take breaks a few times.

All these detailed mentions and descriptions of opulence, branded items and grandiosity, overwhelmed me and it kind of reek of superficiality and love of materialism to me, regardless of deep bonds of friendships and family values, the author tried to convey.

This novel brought me back to my older sister's old romance books.. it's reminiscent of the Mills and Boon of the 80s.. it dragged and I almost gave up on it.. but yeah a bit part touched me a li'l, at the mention of the hero's mom during the reception dinner after the wedding.

This is just my own opinion and how I felt about the book.. and I wouldn't in any way discourage readers to try this author.. she's good and she knows what she's writing about.

Reyes and Emerson give you more than a romance. Childhood best friends, high school sweethearts and a emotional saga that will keep you turning pages. The story gives you glimpses of the childhood and the happy times of dating until things fall apart. Emerson ends up throwing it all away. Reyes is left heartbroken and angry. Throughout the story we are left guessing why Emerson broke Reyes’s heart. When they meet again there is a lot of anger and also undeniable attraction. Neither got over the other. This story with have you frustrated with the back and forth and smiling at the good times. The characters are great, Reyes is a great guy. NFL quarterback, high intelligence, alpha, possessive and loyal to his family and friends. Do not get on his bad side. He will come out with guns blazing. Emerson is a sports journalist. She had the difficult role of working in a male dominated industry. She is a little bit of a tomboy but cane glam up when necessary. Independent, smart and possessive with sassy attitude. They are surrounded by a vast of great side characters that is made up family and friends who are very supportive. A great story with some politics and revenge threading through.

Well, I am a little bit confused by the plot of the book. First, Reyes is an athlete and Emerson is a sport reporter so I assume that it is a second chance sport romance. But then the author throws a billioniare into the mix and the plot is changed to how Reyes's families disfunction, politics, and etc. I start feeling bore in this part because they have a lot of characters both from Reyes' parents side to remember. The final straw that make I reducing the star from 5 to 4 is problems with Emerson's father. The reason he made her breaking up with him 8 years ago seems weak and unreasonable. And then he wants her closure now? Unbelievable. This part, Reyes who turns from an athlete to a billioniare becomes a mafia. So I think the plot is too messed up. Emerson's behavior from the beginning doesn't help too. She is so confusing. Anyways, their chemistry is out there and their are both perfect for each other and that is why I give it 4 stars.

I have to say that the book summary for Get Over You totally sucked me in. Heck yes, I want to read a book where a sexy, hot QB is gunning for the woman who broke his heart BECAUSE HE WANTS HER BACK.

I knew (or was hoping) that the hurt/want dynamic to his need was going to be explosive and I wasn’t disappointed.

The best part of this book was the chemistry between Emerson and Reyes. Even though they hadn’t seen each other for 8 years, their attraction was undeniable when they first set eyes on one another.

Reyes and Emerson grew up together and were thick as thieves before they became more their last years in high school. You don’t learn why Emerson up and dropped him out of the blue one day but she did and neither had forgotten the other in all the time since.

Reyes is so amazing you’re waiting for this amazing reason why Emerson would have left him so easily and are rooting for them from the get go. You can tell both want to protect their hearts (and in Reyes’ case enact a bit of revenge) but they really can’t help but give in to each other.

If anything, I wanted MORE of that...

Football and MORE

International travel with descriptions that put you in the mood for travel. A strong heroine that stands her own against and with a strong alpha male at the height of his professional football career. With the influences of generations of family members in their own political and professional lives Reyes and Emerson find their way through childhood to adulthood embroiled with treachery, love, abandonment, strong careers and stronger family ties. When I thought the story was headed in one direction of went another. I stayed enthralled from beginning to end. I am anxiously waiting to see what Greer can get into in your next installment in the Dare Me series!!

Reyes is officially my new book boyfriend! He is everything - protective, romantic, and 100% swoon-worthy. All the little things he does to show love for his dad, Susanna (cousin), his family in Spain, and Emerson (heroine) made my heart swell.

The chemistry was incredibly HOT between Reyes and Emerson. Even at 30% of the book, I was having to stand in front of the freezer to cool off. And Hunter did not let off through the rest of the book. Holy hotness, I needed a cold shower!

The way that Hunter wrote about family was deeply authentic. Emerson's group of girlfriends is a wonderful family of women supporting women. Reyes close relationship with his father. But my favorite is Reyes' family Spain. Their unconditional love for Reyes and their open arms to Emerson is heart-warming.

There were two different parts of the books that had me crying … like. a. baby! 😭😭😭
When you read the book, tell me if know which scenes those are and if you had the same reaction.

To say that I loved this book is an understatement. It had a little bit of everything and Hunter made it all flow seamlessly.
✔️ Football/Sports Romance
✔️ Childhood Sweethearts/Soul Mates fighting for their second chance
✔️ Tight family bonds as well as family secrets
✔️ Political suspense

Emerson and Reyes love story is a second chance sports romance and started more on the enemies to lovers side.

Emerson is a sportswriter and Reyes is a NFL football player, and they reunite when Reyes signs with the football team which is covered by Emerson.

They start to see each other, because their attraction and old feelings are still there. After some hard time in their newly relationship they start to accept and forgive each other.

I really wanted to smack Reyes a couple of times in the beginning, but in the end he redeemed himself in my eyes. I liked that he knew what he wanted and as a true alpha male he made it happen.
I liked Emerson, she is a strong woman, with a great career. I kind of understood why she did what she did, for love sometimes you choose wrong, but in the end everything worked out.

The plot is interesting, there is family drama, and the love story is sweet. There are a lot of side characters, which shape the story. One thing that I didn't like and couldn't really pay attention were the details, sometimes there were too many.

This is the second book, where the HEA happens at around 70% of the story, and I like that. It takes you more on the character's life, and the story gets more "realistic".

I look forward to read Greer's story, I hope there is one.

This is a beautiful heartwarming second chance/ sports romance. It was heartfelt and captivating. Both Emerson and Reyes are childhood best friends / high school sweethearts who are serrated by a secret. Fast forward Eight years later, Reyes is Super Bowl-winning quarterback where as Emerson is a well-known sportswriter. The new team Reyes is in is close to family and Emerson. Neither two have moved on but there are quite few obstacles in their way before these two can reunite and get their HEA. The story line was fast paced and kept me hooked from the moment I started reading it. This is the first time I’ve read this author and was quite impressed by the by the writing style & plot and characters development. Would be checking out more books by this author. Highly recommend this book!

Skylar Hunter is an author that everyone needs to meet, as Get Over You was utter perfection in my eyes.  I love me some NFL so with Reyes being a star QB in the NFL?!  Yeah that deserved 5 stars from just that, but when you add the second chance, and all the twists to the mix?!  It blew me away in the very best of ways.  Emerson & Reyes have known each other most of their lives as they were besties growing up and fell in love.  However, things hit the fan so they've been apart for 8 years when Reyes changes his team which puts him in the path of Emerson again.  Emerson is also involved with the NFL as a female reporter (YAY #GIRLPOWER), which is amazing in my eyes since football has always been more of a masculine club (can you feel my eyes rolling?).  All of their chemistry is still there, but Reyes wants to get close & personal with their past, so all kinds of things are revealed.  Will Emerson & Reyes finally get the future they wanted when they were younger?!  Hit those one click buttons to find out!  HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

My favorite books are the ones that are funny and sweet and this book fills both those requirements. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves humor, silliness and love.
